Outside [[Professor Kukui]]'s house, Professor Kukui apologizes to {{Ash}} as he had been hoping to show him the shopping mall, but instead a fellow researcher had asked him to come over. Ash replies that it isn't a problem as he can do some training with his Pokémon. Professor Kukui then heads off with {{AP|Rockruff}}. Later, Ash and Pikachu enjoy a drink and wonder how to train, only for {{AP|Rowlet}} to fall off a bookcase onto Ash, causing him to spill his drink onto his shirt. Rotom suggests washing his shirt and Ash agrees. In the laundry, he also notices Professor Kukui's lab coats and decides to place them all in the washing machine as well. Ash then dumps a load of laundry powder before turning the washing machine on. Rotom asks Ash if he did it right, to which Ash says it was a piece of cake.

Ash says it isn't a problem as he can do some Pokémon battle training which {{AP|Pikachu}} is happy to do as {{Rotom}} agrees to help. Professor Kukui says that although this is his day off, Pokémon Researchers love to debate and being a researcher himself, he can't comment. Professor Kukui heads off with {{AP|Rockruff}}. Later Ash and Pikachu enjoy a drink and wonder how to train as Ash mentions catching another Pokémon would be a good idea as {{AP|Rowlet}} falls of a bookcase onto Ash causing him to spill his drink onto his shirt causing a stain. Rotom suggests washing the shirt and as Ash goes to do it, he notices Professor Kukui's lab coats and checks them to see if they are dirty before giving up and placing them all in the washing machine. Ash uses a lot of detergent before turning the washing machine on. Rotom asks Ash if he did it right to which Ash says it was a piece of cake.


Later Rotom is taking pictures of Rowlet who is happily posing when a bang gets their attention. Rotom goes to check and finds the washing machine has caused a mess and lets Ash know who comes running only to jump into the tank. Going into the laundry room, Ash and Pikachu slip on the suds and clear the mess up. Once the mess is cleaned up, Ash checks in the fridge for some food and goes to eat some food but Rotom says he needs to cook it first. Ash doesn't know how to cook as Rotom says he watched a cooking show with Professor Kukui once and offers to teach him which Ash agrees. Rotom starts by telling Ash to dice the vegetables which Ash does before adding and salt and pepper but they tip quite a bit in. Once the food is cooked, Rotom notes it looks different as Ash and Pikachu dig in but the food makes them sick and causes Pikachu to shock the whole house with {{m|Thunderbolt}}. Finding they have no more food in the house, Ash decides to go shopping. At the mall, Ash sees how big it is as Rotom takes a pic of the map, Ash spots {{an|Sophocles}} and {{TP|Sophocles|Togedemaru}} nearby and go over. Togedemaru greets Pikachu enthusiastically. Rotom provides information on Togedemaru, mentioning it's [[Ability]] {{a|Lightning Rod}} to which Ash [[SM002|remembers]]. Togedemaru is then seen rolling around Pikachu when Rotom explains that Togedemaru rolls around when happy but mentions that at the same time it cannot control itself. This is proven true as Togedemaru crashes into Ash. Ash then asks what Sophocles was intending to shop for to which he replies that he was going to get some ice cream. This sparks Ash's attention to which he enthusiastically asks if he could come along, to which Sophocles shyly accepts.
Later, Rotom is taking pictures of Rowlet who is happily posing when a bang grabs everyone's attention. Rotom goes to check it out, and finds the washing machine has caused a mess. Ash follows in, and begins to clean up the mess. After clearing it up, Ash checks in the fridge for some food. Ash tries to eat some, but Rotom intervenes, saying that he needs to cook it first. Ash comments that he doesn't know how to cook, and Rotom offers to teach Ash as it has watched a cooking show with Professor Kukui once in the past. Rotom then starts by telling Ash to dice the vegetables which Ash does, and then to add salt and pepper, which Ash excessively adds to his food. Once the food is cooked, Ash and Pikachu dig in but the food makes them sick, causing Pikachu to shock the whole house with {{m|Thunderbolt}}. {{TRT}} are working at a [[malasada]] shop where they have just served two customers and are relieved that there aren't any more customers having had a long line of customers. At that moment, their supervisor comes over saying they can take a break. At the next shop, Ash and Sophocles examine all the ice cream on offer and decide which one to have. As the two eat their ice cream, Ash exclaims on how good it tastes while Sophocles explains it's the best in Alola based on information he had collected as a hobby. Sophocles then brings out a homemade device to which he shows Ash one of the programs he created called the "Togedemaru Training Program", causing Ash to respond with praise. Rotom also expresses interest in the program and data and asks if he could see the data to which Sophocles responds on the condition that he could analyse the Rotom itself, causing it to promptly change its mind. Meanwhile Team Rocket are gorging on a bowl of malasada's on but despite the relaxing atmosphere, [[James]] reminds them that they are here undercover in order to be able to steal all the Pokémon in the mall. However [[Jessie]] responds by saying that she completely forgot about the plan. Later James examines a panel on the wall and checks to see if it is the security system. Whilst James checks the panel, {{MTR}} keeps an eye out and is freaked out by the sudden appearance of {{TP|Jessie|Mimikyu}} which scares him causing him to knock in James which in turns set off an alarm in the panel sending a door down sealing them in the room.
At the mall, Ash exclaims about how big it is as Rotom takes a photo of a map of the mall. Ash then spots {{an|Sophocles}} and {{TP|Sophocles|Togedemaru}} nearby and go over. Togedemaru greets Pikachu enthusiastically, as Rotom provides information on Togedemaru, mentioning it's [[Ability]] {{a|Lightning Rod}} to which Ash [[SM002|remembers]]. After Togedemaru crashes from its uncontrollable rolling, Ash asks what Sophocles was intending to shop for. Sophocles reveals that he had come for some ice cream, which sparks Ash's attention to which he enthusiastically asks if he could come along.


Elsewhere in the mall, Pikachu, Rotom and Togedemaru stop to watch the TV in a shop window when more doors start to come down. Pikachu, Rotom and Togedemaru see a door coming down between them and Ash and Sophocles and run to get there but the doors comes down, separating them. All the shopper look around worried with the doors down, wondering what is going on as Ash calls through the shutter to their Pokémon who try to bash the door down. Ash tries to deal with the door but Sophocles stops him from breaking other people's property as a security guard comes over and explains that security system has malfunctioned which caused the doors to close automatically and they are investigating the cause as the lights go out which scares Sophocles who begins to panic and ends up running into Ash. Emergency lighting starts to work as Sophocles apologizes to Ash who asks if he is scared of the dark but Sophocles says he was just startled as at night, Togedemaru is always with him when it is dark. They decide to go and find their Pokémon and asks the security guard who is doing everything he can as Sophocles goes to help with his invention. Sophocles works out that they have to shut down the entire system. The security guard informs them that it is the in the power supply room but is called away by another customer so Ash says it is up to them to sort it out much to Sophocles' surprise as Ash checks on their Pokémon, Rotom has checked the map and located the power supply room and Ash says they'll meet them there as Pikachu and Togedemaru follow Rotom as Ash runs off with Sophocles.

In their room, Jessie banging on the door demanding it to open with Meowth as James discovers that they caused the malfunction as Jessie demands he does something as she wants to get out as Meowth spots Mimikyu and becomes scared as Jessie tells them to get along only for the lights in the room to go out. Elsewhere in the mall, Rotom opens an air vent. Pikachu climbs up it easily but Togedemaru can't reach it. Pikachu lowers its tail to assist only for Rotom to carry Togedemaru up there. Pikachu realizes this as Togedemaru surprises him causing him to fall before climbing back up to join the others. Ash follows Sophocles' directions and turns right only to hit a door. They try again only for Ash to run into another door and a third attempt leaves Ash hitting another door. Jessie is straining to open the door with Meowth and becomes frustrated as James gets her attention having found a door that has been open the whole time. Ash and Sophocles come across another that is closed which Sophocles finds odd as it should be open which causes them to be annoyed with each other as Rowlet spots another door coming down and alerts them. They run to get under the door but Sophocles trips and falls but Ash manages to pull Sophocles through. Team Rocket emerge onto the roof delighted to be free only for an air vent to come loose as Pikachu, Rotom and Togedemaru emerge onto the roof and spot Team Rocket there. They are all surprised to see each other as Mimikyu wastes no time in launching a {{m|Shadow Claw}} on Pikachu which Pikachu dodges. Jessie tells Mimikyu not to attack until she says so  as Ash and Sophocles hear an explosion from the attack. Mimikyu continues to attack with {{m|Shadow Ball}} which nearly hits Togedemaru but Pikachu takes the hit which sends him flying off the roof. James and Meowth go to see Pikachu who is hanging onto a window ledge as Jessie stops Togedemaru planning to catch it and Pikachu as Ash and Sophocles arrive. Ash guesses they caused the mess as they say their motto. Sophocles isn't happy at all the trouble they have caused as Ash goes to save Pikachu only to be stopped by James. Sophocles tries to come up with an idea as Togedemaru gets his attention and has Ash tell Pikachu to use Thunderbolt which Ash does. Pikachu's Thunderbolt is attracted by Togedemaru's Lightning Rod as Sophocles orders a {{m|Zing Zap}} which hits Mimikyu and Team Rocket as Ash sends Rowlet to save Pikachu which it does. Team Rocket prepare for the worst as {{an|Bewear}} arrives and jumps onto the roof and picks them off and carries them away. Togedemaru starts playing with Pikachu happily as Ash notes they make a great team as Sophocles tells Ash that Togedemaru is a girl as Ash remembers they were going to the power supply room which Rotom directs him towards.
Meanwhile Team Rocket are gorging on a bowl of malasada, and [[James]] reminds the others that they are here undercover in order to steal all the Pokémon in the mall. A Shocking Grocery Run! (Japanese: びりびりちくちくトゲデマル！ The Shocking and Prickly Togedemaru!) is the sixth episode of the Sun & Moon series, and the 945th episode of the Pokémon anime. It first aired in Japan on December 8, 2016, in the United Kingdom on April 19, 2017, in Canada on April 22, 2017, and in the United States on May 16, 2017.

Blurb

On their day off from Pokémon School, Ash and his Pokémon are left home alone when Professor Kukui is called away. After some mishaps with laundry and cooking, Ash goes shopping and runs into Sophocles at the mall.

After Team Rocket causes a glitch in the security system, Pikachu and Togedemaru get separated from their Trainers—and then the power goes out! Computer whiz Sophocles soon fixes the problem, but by the time he and Ash meet up with their Pokémon, the villains have found them first. Togedemaru and Pikachu team up to defeat Team Rocket, and then Professor Kukui arrives to take the boys out to dinner!

Plot

  • When Ash walks into the Shopping District, a Growlithe's tail is orange instead of cream.
  • When Sophocles pulls out a screwdriver so he can open up the Rotom Pokédex, his hand is colored the same as Ash's skin tone instead of his.
  • When Sophocles turns around after Professor Kukui invites Ash and Sophocles to dinner, Togedemaru's left hand is colored grey instead of white.
