He was chosen along with Cilan by Mr. Hatterly to help choose a Pokémon for his daughter Marigold. Ricard believed that the perfect Pokémon for her would be Petilil because of its scent and cuteness. Cilan disagreed with him, thinking that a half Grass-type would be more suitable for her as opposed to a pure one. Since they couldn't agree, the two Connoisseurs decided to have a battle to see who was right. Ricard ended up losing the battle.
He reappeared in a flashback in Survival of the Striaton Gym!.
|Purrloin is Ricard's "Premium Brand" Pokémon. It battled Cilan's Crustle to determine which Pokémon Marigold would use. In the beginning of the battle, it surprised Cilan with its speed, but still lost relatively quickly due to Crustle using a combination of Shell Smash and Rock Wrecker.
It reappeared in a flashback in Survival of the Striaton Gym!.
