Tyrogue (Japanese: バルキー Balkie) belongs to Red. He is level-headed and the only one of Red's team who is actually concerned with training and battling. This often gets him into fights with Clefairy.

History

Red and Tyrogue

Before Tyrogue met Red, he was the Pokémon Fan Club President's Pokémon. When the president spoke to Red, he wanted a Togepi so he decided to trade his Tyrogue for Red's Togepi. After the trade, Red heads off with a new member of his team. Since then, Tyrogue has traveled with Red and his two companions. During his travels, Tyrogue was shown to be very serious about training.

In Tyrogue's In Love?!, Tyrogue found a love interest in Jasmine. He fought her Steelix over Jasmine's love. In The Ultimate Battle...?!, Tyrogue was forced to work with Clefairy as Clefairy could not handle Dragonair by himself.

Tyrogue went to Hoenn along with Red, Clefairy and Pikachu in Pokémon Ruby-Sapphire. In I Won't Let You Lead!!, he is challenged by Professor Birch to various contests. Due to Clefairy's foolishness, Tyrogue did not manage to win any. In the next chapter, he plans out a rescue mission in order to get Pikachu after Pikachu was taken by Ruby.

Tyrogue then went to Sinnoh in Pocket Monsters DP.

Tyrogue went back to Johto in Pocket Monsters HGSS. He stayed with the group until PMHGSS23 where he was released.

Personality and characteristics

Tyrogue is very different from Clefairy and Pikachu as Tyrogue is the only one that actually cares about training and battling. Due to this, he often fights with Clefairy as Clefairy is the complete opposite. Despite their opinions about each other, Tyrogue ends up working with Clefairy when an opponent that is too strong is impossible to beat as shown when he couldn't take on Clair's Dragonair by himself.

Trivia

  • The trade that occurred between Red and the Pokémon Fan Club President is similar to the one in the games where the player receives a Fighting-type Pokémon. However, the Pokémon traded are different.
