The term transform glitch refers to a glitch in HeartGold and SoulSilver. It occurs after a Pokémon capable of using the move Transform uses the move Rage after transforming until all the PP of Rage is finished followed by either capturing or defeating the enemy Pokémon.

At the end of the battle the user's Pokémon will have the same moveset as the enemy Pokémon. Exploiting this glitch allows for Ditto to learn moves other than Transform and to subsequently pass down any Egg move.

If a Ditto manages to learn an egg move through this glitch the player may be able to pass it down in the daycare if the paired Pokémon is female.

This glitch can also be exploited by using Transform through Mimic, Mirror Move, Copycat, Metronome and Assist. However, it can only be performed within a double battle (unless the foe happens to be a Ditto). In addition, after the PP of Rage is finished, only the Pokémon that used one of the aforementioned move-copying moves can defeat the enemy; if the other Pokémon on your team attacks first, the glitch will not work.

Double Battle Example

  • Send out Sudowoodo (knows Mimic) and Ditto (knows Transform)
  • Ditto uses Transform on any Pokémon on the field
  • Sudowoodo uses Mimic on Ditto, learns Transform
  • Ditto switches out with Feraligatr (knows Rage)
  • Sudowoodo uses Transform on Feraligatr
  • Sudowoodo uses Rage on any Pokémon on the field
  • Sudowoodo's PP of rage is finished
  • Feraligatr switches out with another Pokémon (to ensure Sudowoodo attacks first)
  • Sudowoodo immediately causes enemy to faint, ending the battle

If done correctly, Sudowoodo will know all of Feraligatr's moves after the battle ends. Keep in mind that if the Pokémon you are glitching faints before the battle ends, it will not work, and with the amount of switching and moves that do not inflict damage, this can be difficult with a lower-level Pokémon.

Effects
