[[Category:{{{type1}}}-type Pokémon|{{{ndex}}}]] Prinplup (Japanese: ポッタイシ Pottaishi) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.

It evolves from Piplup starting at level 16, and evolves into Empoleon starting at level 36.

Prinplup resembles a blue penguin. It has yellow three-toed feet. Its body is mostly light-blue. There are four button-like spots on its stomach. Its wings are dark-blue with light-blue tips. It apparently has claws hidden in the flesh of its wings because it can learn Metal Claw and Shadow Claw. It has an owl-like face and two yellow crests running across the top of its head.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Behavior

Trivia

  • Prinplup can learn Metal Claw, despite not having any visible claws.

Origin

Prinplup is seemingly based on a macaroni penguin.

Name origin

Its Japanese name is a combination of the words ぽちゃぽちゃ pochapocha, meaning both to splash in water and to have a plump appearance, and 皇太子 kōtaishi, crown prince - in reference to its evolution into an emperor penguin of sorts. Its English name uses the same pun, "prince" and "plup", the sound of hitting the water
