In the core series, Present will have a 20% chance of healing Pokémon with full HP, though the message afterwards slightly differs depending on the game.  In Gold and Silver, if it would heal the target but it has full HP, a message is displayed that says "<Enemy/Wild> <Pokémon> can't receive the gift!" In Gold and Silver, the level, Attack, and Defense variables of the damage formula are replaced. The Attack variable is replaced with 10. The level will be based on the index number of the defending Pokémon's type, while the Defense will be based on the index number of the attacking Pokémon's type (if a Pokémon is a dual-type, its secondary type will be used). Also, Present only inflicts a quarter of the normal damage against Rock-type and Steel-type Pokémon.
Gold and Silver
In Gold and Silver (and any link battle with either of them), a glitch causes the level, Attack, and Defense variables of the damage formula to be replaced. The Attack will be replaced with 5 if the target is Rock- or Steel, or 10 otherwise. The level will be based on the index number of the defending Pokémon's type, and the Defense will be based on the index number of the attacking Pokémon's type (if a Pokémon has two types, its secondary type will be used).

In Crystal and Pokémon Stadium 2, Present uses the standard damage formula.
In Crystal and Pokémon Stadium 2, the glitch is fixed and Present's damage calculates normally.

In all versions, it will heal Pokémon with full HP, though without effect.
Generations III onwards
Present will now fail if it would heal a Pokémon with full HP.

Generations III and IV
Present consumes a Gem even if it heals the target.
Present uses the standard damage formula. Present heals the foe by 1/4 of its max HP, instead of only 80. It will fail if it would heal Pokémon with full HP.

Generation V
If a Pokémon with Parental Bond uses Present, if Present heals the target it will only hit once, and if it damages the target it will hit twice.
Present consumes a Gem even if it heals the target.

Generation VI
Present can also be used as part of a Contest Spectacular combination, with the user gaining an extra three appeal points if a certain move (Celebrate, Covet, Happy Hour or Wish) was used in the prior turn.
In the case of Present being used by a Pokémon with Parental Bond, if Present heals the target it will only hit once, and if it damages the target it will hit twice (the second hit will always damage the target).

Present (Japanese: プレゼント Present) is a damage-dealing Normal-type move introduced in Generation II. It is the signature move of Delibird.

Effect

Generation II

Present can either deal damage against the target or heal it for 1/4 of its maximum HP. If Present deals damage, then the base power of Present is chosen at random from 40, 80, or 120.

In the core series, Present will have a 20% chance of healing Pokémon with full HP, though the message afterwards slightly differs depending on the game. In Pokémon Gold and Silver, if it would heal the target but it has full HP, a message is displayed that says "<Enemy/Wild> <Pokémon> can't receive the gift!" In Pokémon Stadium 2, the move is still performed but the message "It couldn't receive the gift!" is displayed. In English Pokémon Crystal, no message will be displayed.

Present's effect is chosen randomly as shown below.

Effect Probability
Damage with 40 base power 40%
Damage with 80 base power 30%
Damage with 120 base power 10%
Heal 1/4 of the target's max HP 20%

Gold and Silver

In Gold and Silver (and any link battle with either of them), a glitch causes the level, Attack, and Defense variables of the damage formula to be replaced. The Attack will be replaced with 5 if the target is Rock- or Steel-type, or 10 otherwise. The level will be based on the index number of the defending Pokémon's type, and the Defense will be based on the index number of the attacking Pokémon's type (if a Pokémon has two types, its secondary type will be used).

Index Number Type
0 Normal

7 Bug
8 Ghost
9 Steel
20 Fire
21 Water
22 Grass
23 Electric
24 Psychic
25 Ice
26 Dragon
27 Dark

In Crystal and Pokémon Stadium 2, the glitch is fixed and Present's damage calculates normally.

Generations III onwards

Present will now fail if it would heal a Pokémon with full HP.

Present consumes a Normal Gem even if it heals the target.

If a Pokémon with Parental Bond uses Present, if Present heals the target it will only hit once, and if it damages the target it will hit twice.

Present can also be used as part of a Contest Spectacular combination, with the user gaining an extra three appeal points if a certain move (Celebrate, Covet, Happy Hour or Wish) was used in the prior turn.
