The Pokémon anime first reached Denmark in 2000, with the first broadcast of Pokémon - Jeg vælger dig! in Danish. In Denmark, Bergsala A/S owns the franchise.

Pokémon video games

Pokémon games sold in Denmark are not translated to Danish, rather they are left in English. The games are released at the same time as in the rest of Europe.

Events

Event Pokémon distributed in Denmark include Europe Movie 11 Shaymin in 2009 and Europe Michina Arceus in 2010.

Pokémon anime

The Pokémon anime is broadcasted on Disney XD, previously known as Fox Kids and then Jetix, and TV2 in Denmark, a publicly owned television station in Denmark based in Odense, which the station began broadcasting on 1 October 1988, thereby ending the television monopoly previously exercised by the Danmarks Radio (DR). The season Pokémon: Battle Frontier was not sent after the Pokémon: Advanced Battle season, but was just skipped and went directly to Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl. After they had sent in Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl, they sent Battle Frontier.

The entire Johto saga has never aired on Danish TV. TV2 did not air any Pokémon episodes between Season 3 and Season 5. This is known in Denmark as Pokémon Pausen. However, the last 16 episodes of Season 5 were released on DVD's with three episodes in each.

In Denmark, the Who's That Pokémon? segment was deleted in Season 1 and 2, because of a hidden commercial. This meant that one had to buy the games to know the names of the Pokémon. Who's That Pokémon? did appear in the VHS tapes that were released in Denmark.

In April 2011, it was revealed on a Danish anime site that TV2 had bough the right to air Season 13 and 14. This means that they skipped Season 11 and 12. This is the third time one or more seasons skipped by TV2. It was announced that the new episodes would begin around Autumn 2011.

Disney XD, which also aired the entire Diamond and Pearl saga, has revealed that the official premiere of Season 14 will be March 10th.

Movies

The first three movies were released in theaters, and then onto DVD. Celebi: Voice of the Forest was released straight to DVD, and then two and a half years later, Pokémon Heroes, Jirachi: Wishmaker and Destiny Deoxys were released on DVD. Then on February 14th, 2009 The Rise of Darkrai had its television premiere on Jetix Scandinavia. Then on May 9th, 2009, Jetix Scandinavia had their premiere of Giratina and the Sky Warrior. These two movies were released on Danish DVD, but not for sale; instead they were made for a contest, and there were about 10 copies of both movies made. It is yet unknown about if they are going to be released commercially on Danish DVDs. Arceus and the Jewel of Life had a television premiere on Disney XD on June 26th, 2010. Lucario and the Mystery of Mew and Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea have never been dubbed in Danish.

Cast and crew

The Danish version is dubbed by Dubberman AS. It is unknown who translates the anime, but it was revealed that Pokémon Heroes was translated by Dorte Langberg, and Jirachi: Wish Maker and Destiny Deoxys was translated by Thomas Maintz.

Mathias Klenske is a Danish dubber, and is most known for his role as Ash Ketchum, but has dubbed other roles in Pokémon too, like Lance and Paul in DP001. Misty was dubbed by Lulu Jacobsen in the first two seasons, Simone Drechsler in season 7 and Annevig Schelde Ebbe in season 5 and 8. Annevig Schelde Ebbe is they voice of both May and Dawn in the Danish dub. Brock was dubbed by Peter Holst-Beck, who also voiced Arceus. Max was dubbed by Mikkel Følsgaard, who is also the voice of Drew in season 6 and Ritchie. Christian Damsgaard is the voice of Gary. Julie Lund was the Danish voice of Sheena and Maren. Kasper Leisner is the Danish voice of Baron Alberto.

As of Black & White series, Malene Tabert joined the team as Iris and Sonny Lahey as Cilan. Jan Tellefsen now as Trip and had previously other roles in the past within movies and anime.

Music

Two Pokémon soundtrack albums were released on CD in Denmark. The first, Pokémon, Du skal fange dem!, is a translation of Pokémon 2.B.A. Master. The second, Pokémon 3: Det Ultimative Soundtrack, is a translation of Pokémon 3: The Ultimate Soundtrack. A translation of Totally Pokémon has not been released, likely because most of the songs are also available on the movie 3 soundtrack.

Pokémon Trading Card Game

In Denmark, the Pokémon Trading Card Game is distributed by Bergsala Enigma.

Pokémon manga

No Pokémon manga has been officially released in Denmark.

Pokémon merchandise

The Official Pokémon Magazine

The magazine costs 35 Danish Kroners (Around 6,50 Dollars). The official abbreviation is POM. The magazine got renamed in the 49th issue, to Pokémon Det Officielle Magasin

Community

PokeTeam is a Danish website with a focus on finding Pokémon related news items and translating them into Danish. After the official Danish Pokémon forum closed, many fans turned to PokeTeam as the best substitute for the forum.

In 2009, like Germany, Italy, Sweden and the Netherlands, Denmark held a Pokémon Day 2009. It was a small event which included a download of Shaymin, a drawing contest and a showing of the Danish dub of The Rise of Darkrai, and playing Pokémon Platinum. It is unlikely that another Pokémon Day will happen in Denmark.
