Pokémon Trading Card Game Online is the first Pokémon game of the MMOTCG (multimember online trading card game) genre. The game released March 24, 2011, currently in its beta stage, is based on the TCG aspect of the Pokémon franchise.

The player begins his or her adventure at Game Store where Zach and Ella welcome him or her. The player is given three starter decks, as well as three coins to choose from—coins featuring the Energy symbols, Shaymin, and the Pokémon logo with a Poké Ball. Currently, the game revolves around three main Pokémon Leagues found in the Trainer Challenge option, while a fourth is currently being made.

Trainer Challenge

In the Trainer Challenge, players must face various opponents. Players may change leagues and difficulty anytime, with the changing of league available only after completing one.

Upon completing an achievement, players obtain tokens.

Avatar Creator

Players edit their avatars here. They may save multiple avatars for future use, and load previously-saved ones. Publishing avatars as PNG-format images is also available.

Visitors of the site may choose to play through tutorials instead. Completing a tutorial rewards players with one token each.

Trainer Tokens are obtained in various parts of the game, such as Trainer Challenge and Tutorials. They are tied to the accounts, so they may be used on Pokémon.com.

Coins are items that can be used in-game when a move, status effect or ability requires you to flip a coin. The different coins don't have different effects, they just look different. The three starting coins are a yellow Shaymin coin, a blue coin with the different energies on it and a silver Pokémon coin which will be the back of your chosen coin. Your opponent always has a red Arceus coin with a regular backing.
