Pokémon Island is a little-known island probably located somewhere near Kanto, although the exact whereabouts are unknown.

Pokémon Island is home to many different species of wild Pokémon. Completely isolated, it's an ideal environment to observe how wild Pokémon act naturally. Pokémon Trainers are not allowed on the island, because catching the local Pokémon would upset the island's natural balance.

Pokémon Island has several different habitats ideal for all types of Pokémon, including a beach, a tunnel, a volcano, a river, a cave, and a valley.

Many rare kinds of Pokémon. such as Moltres, Zapdos, Articuno, and Mew have been seen on or around the island.

Professor Oak hired Todd to take photographs of all the Pokémon on the island in Pokémon Snap. Using the ZERO-ONE, a camera, and several other gadgets, Todd was able to complete his mission.

Areas of Pokémon Island

Beach

A sunny beach, and home to twelve kinds of Pokémon. A crab-shaped rock is the sign of Kingler.

Pidgey
These are seen flying around the start of the course. For a good photo of the Pidgey, return after obtaining the Dash Engine, and dash to the other side of these Pidgey. Further along the course, there are several points where Pidgey fly by while chased by a Mewoth. Near the end a couple of Pidgey will fly to their nest and use Whirlwind against a Meowth near it.
Doduo
Near the beginning of the beach, a Doduo leaps out from behind a corner and flees.
Pikachu
A few Pikachu may be found along the beach. Toss apples for the Pikachu at the start of the course to follow, leading it to a surf board left in the sand. A shot of Pikachu on the surfboard is a special shot called Surfing Pikachu and will score many points. Otherwise, after scaring Scyther from the tall grass, two Pikachu will come out and sit on nearby tree stumps, another valuable special shot. The sound of a PokéFlute will send sparks flying with a double-Thunderbolt attack from the two Pikachu.
Butterfree
Common around the beach. Use the Dash Engine to hurry and find four Butterfree near the bridge.
Lapras
Throughout the ocean are these sea creatues. Snap photos of the first three sets of Lapras and three Lapras will appear close-up near the end of the course.
Snorlax
Seen as a very large snoozing blob. While a Pester Ball will get a slight movement out of Snorlax, it will take the PokéFlute to wake this Pokémon and get it to dance.
Meowth
Another somewhat common Pokémon of the beath. First, one is seen on a high ledge, and will fall down after being hit with a Pester Ball. After falling off, the Meowth will get up and react in a pose worth many points. Later, there are a few instances where a Meowth is seen chasing a Pidgey. Two Pidgey Whirlwind a Meowth near the end of the course, allowing for a photo of a dizzy, twirling Meowth.
Scyther
Hidden in tall grass, a Pester Ball where the grass is being chopped will send this Pokémon fleeing from its cover. As Scyther escapes, it takes a moment to use a Slash attack.
Eevee
Eevee plays along large boulders with a mysterious pink ball. Hit the ball to reveal its identity, and Eevee will leap up and down in delight.
Chansey
Throwing an item at the pink ball Eevee plays with reveals it to be a Chansey.
Magikarp
Tossing an apple into the water under the bridge causes a Magikarp to leap up.
Kangaskhan
Kangaskhan, near the end of the course, keeps its back to the camera. It will turn around if it smells food nearby, and it may roar.

Tunnel

File:PokemonSign2.jpg
Pinsir Shadow

A long, dark tunnel with an abandoned power plant inside. Twelve Pokémon species inhabit this area. Bring the power plant to life by hatching Zapdos, and a strange shadow will be cast on a wall, the mark of Pinsir.

Electrode
Found outside of and within the tunnel, these Pokémon will use Explosion if aggitated by a camera flash. Causing the Electrode near the end of the tunnel to explode will open a new area of the island for Todd to explore.
Electabuzz
Found multiple times before and within the tunnel. The Dash Engine lets Todd get ahead of them to snap a front-side photograph.
Pikachu
Before entering the tunnel, there is a Pikachu seen - photograph it a few times and it will run to an Elecrode and hop on top of it. This Pokémon also is found near an enormous egg within the tunnel. Leading it to the egg with apples followed by a Thunderbolt-inducing PokéFlute melody causes the Pikachu to attack the egg, hatching it.
Kakuna
A group of Kakuna dangle from the opening of the tunnel. They drop down whenever Electrode explode. The Dash Engine may be used to get close to one.
Zapdos
The giant egg, when hatched by Pikachu's electric Thunderbolt attack, releases Zapdos. It will fly to a generator and begin attacking it, bringing the rest of the power plant to life.
Magikarp
After passing by Zapdos's egg, a lake of water within the tunnel is home to Magikarp. Tossing an item into the deep pond entices a Magikarp to leap from the water.
Zubat
Midway through the tunnel, as Todd passes through a metal doorway from one area of the tunnel to another, Zubat hurry through.
Haunter
Deep within the tunnel, a purple glow moves around. Unknown to Todd what this is, a developed photograph reveals it to be a Haunter.
Diglett
Near the end of the tunnel, a Pikachu is found playing with Diglett. The Dash Engine is necessary to get close.
Dugtrio
Taking a photo of Diglett will send Pikachu off to play with another. Photographing the next Diglett the Pikachu finds repeats the process, until the Pikachu comes across a Dugtrio. Take another picture to make another Dugtrio will appear, and again for three Dugtrio to raise out of the ground.
Magnemite
At the tunnel's end are a trio of Magnemite. Each Magnemite emits a Supersonic which distorts the photo, but distracting them with apples causes these Pokémon to lower their guard.
Magneton
Luring all three Magnemites near one another with apples causes them to fuse into a Magneton.

Volcano

File:PokemonSign3.jpg
Koffing Smoke

Boiling magma heats the volcanic areas. Ten species of Pokémon live within this area. Throwing a Pester Ball into a crater of magma releases a purple cloud, the sign of Koffing.

Rapidash
A fast-running Pokémon, Rapidash gallop by early in the course.
Vulpix
Just beyond the Rapidash plays a Vulpix. Apples delight the fire fox. Afterwards, two more Vulpix can be found.
Charmander
Common Pokémon in the volcanic area. One is near the beginning with a Magmar. When stopped by the giant egg, two Charmander can be seen. Toss apples to them, and each will call two more Charmander, making a pack of six.
Magmar
Early on, a Magmar will attack a nearby Charmander if disturbed. Later one, two Magmar battle one another if lured together.
Charmeleon
If the Charmander near the Magmar is attacked by Magmar's fiery attack, it will evolve into Charmeleon. Another Charmeleon is near the end of the course, running around a pool of lava.
Moltres
When the enormous egg blocking the ZERO-ONE's path is knocked into the lava below, it hatches into the magnificent legendary fire bird. Watches where it flies and be prepared to point your camera straight up, and you can catch a good shot of this Pokémon spreading its wings and scattering embers about.
Growlithe
Near the end of the area, these hide within craters. Tossing Pester Balls into the craters will cause them to hop out. Professor Oak would be impressed by three of this Pokémon in one photo.
Arcanine
Sometimes a disturbed Arcanine hops from the craters near the end of the stage, after tossing Pester Balls into them. Professor Oak would be impressed by three of this Pokémon in one photo.
Charizard
Knocking Charmeleon into a crater of magma will cause it to evolve into Charizard.
Magikarp
As in other areas, throw an item into a pool of water to cause Magikarp to leap out.

River

A gently flowing river. Twelve species of Pokémon live around this area. Hidden behind the flowing spores of a resting Vileplume lies a special tree, the sign of Cubone.

Poliwag
These little guys will be on the right bank of the river. Hit them with enough Pester Balls and they will do a running dive into the water.
Bulbasaur
On the left bank, there are two Bulbasaur bulbs sticking out of stumps. They can be knocked into view with Pester Balls. Another Bulbasaur can be lured out from an opening in a log with an apple.
Slowpoke
These are found just sort of sitting on the left bank. It doesn't react to very much, though it will walk towards apples.
Slowbro
Lure a Slowpoke to one of the spots marked with a Shellder sign with apples, and it will go fishing with its tail. It will catch a Shellder, which will cause it to evolve into a Slowbro. It still won't react to much, however.
Vileplume
This is sleeping on the right bank, releasing spores into the air. If you have the PokéFlute, you can wake it up and make it dance for you.
Shellder
These will fly out of water and into the air. This begs the question of how a Shellder can fly, but it is never addressed in the game. They can also be seen briefly when a fishing Slowpoke pulls one out of the water before the two combine to form Slowbro.
Metapod
These can be seen hanging overhead in the canopy of a tree. Hit them with items, and they will descend for a period. One is positioned so that it can, if used properly, be used to stop the ZERO-ONE.
Psyduck
This duck is first seen swimming around in circles, and hitting it with an item will cause it to sink. It will then start jumping out of the water where it was swimming and high into the air. Throwing items into the water may cause it to appear out of the water in other spots, sometimes jumping up very quickly with sparkles around it.
Porygon
On the right bank, there is a point where strange shapes are sticking out of the bushes, camouflaged to match the bushes themselves. Throw apples to them, and Porygon will jump out. Their camouflage can be removed with a Pester Ball.
Cloyster
Just as Shellder can fly out of the water and float through the air, so can Cloyster. One will eventually appear with the Shellder.
Magikarp
Throw items into the water, and one may jump out, perhaps performing a Splash.
Pikachu
Near the end of the course, there is a pile of logs, and on top a Pikachu will poke its head out. Take a picture of it, and it'll take off in a flash, running around with a Quick Attack. If you can take a picture of this fast-moving Pokémon, it will be a special shot, worth bonus points.

Cave

File:PokemonSign5.jpg
Mewtwo Constellation

A cave where strange noises may be heard. Thirteen kinds of Pokémon live within. Hidden inside is a constellation of Mewtwo, this area's sign.

Grimer
At the start of the course, there are openings on the cave walls where this Pokémon can be seen. Apples will make them turn around. Another will appear on a platform below you if you take pictures of the others.
Muk
When a Grimer appears below you, hit it with three Pester Balls to make it evolve.
Zubat
A few Zubat will fly past you as soon as you enter the course. Another is seen deep in the stage, flying around with a Pikachu on it. At the end of the stage, more will fly past you.
Bulbasaur
A few of these can be seen on a ledge on the right side of the course. They have unusual faces...
Ditto
Hit any of the weird Bulbasaur with Pester Balls, and they'll transform into their true form, Ditto.
Koffing
Three of these can be found, each harassing a Jigglypuff. Hit one with a Pester Ball to make it leave and the next Koffing appear.
Jigglypuff
Three of these can be found, each being harassed by a Koffing. Save them by pelting the Koffing with Pester Balls, and you'll be rewarded with a special shot of a Jigglypuff stage show near the end of the course.
Weepinbell
It is floating around a pool of water and just generally minding its own business. It's hard to miss it, since the ZERO-ONE does a half-circle around the pool.
Victreebel
Knock the Weepinbell into the pool, and it will evolve and screech at you.
Magikarp
Once again, throw an item into the water to make one jump out. Unsurprising, since this Pokémon can be found pretty much everywhere but the final stage.
Pikachu
When you pass the Weepinbell's pool and head into the next room, you can see this Pokémon being flown around the ceiling by a Zubat. Hit the Zubat with a Pester Ball, and Pikachu will fall, with balloons appearing from its back, slowing its descent and giving you another special shot to photograph. If you do this and hatch Articuno, you'll see it again, riding on the back of Articuno as a difficult to photograph but very valuable special shot.
Jynx
Two are seen sleeping around a large icy egg. Play the PokéFlute and they'll wake up and start doing a magical dance.
Articuno
Wake up the Jynx with the PokéFlute, and they'll start working magic on the egg, causing it to hatch into this legendary bird. After it flies off, it's not gone for good - turn around in the final part of the course, and you'll see it fly towards you.

Valley

A rapid-moving river flows through this valley, the home of thirteen species of Pokémon. The large mountain sign of Dugtrio is seen almost immediately upon entering the course.

Squirtle
When you enter the course, brown shells can be seen bobbing in the water. Hit them with an item, and they will be knocked forward. If you angle it right, they will land on the shore and pop out, revealing themselves to be Squirtle. They can be seen near the end of the course as well, with all but one rolling up a large mound. The last will roll up if you hit it with a Pester Ball.
Goldeen
Throw items into the water, and Goldeen will sometimes jump out.
Dratini
Throw items into the water, and Dratini will sometimes jump out. These spots are less common than those of the other water Pokémon which may jump out.
Mankey
There are three Mankey throughout the stage. The first is seen early on, yelling at you from a distance in front of Mt. Dugtrio. When the river first starts getting very rapid, another can be seen on a ledge on the left side of the river, also yelling at you. The last one is on top of a large mound, yelling at you as well. This one, however, can be knocked down by hitting the Squirtle at the base of the mound and making it roll up the mound - aim it right, and it'll roll right into the Mankey! This Mankey will fall on a switch, opening up the route to a little pond. This also puts Mankey in a close spot for good pictures of it yelling at you.
Sandshrew
There are three of these, buried deep underground. You can see them briefly from a distance before they burrow underground, but the only way to get a decent shot of them is to knock down the Geodude clinging to the rock wall with Pester Balls. They will fall, and the shock of them hitting the ground will drive out Sandshrew.
Sandslash
Like Sandshrew, Sandslash burrows underground before the ZERO-ONE can come close enough for a good shot. Knock down the two Geodude, and the Graveler above will fall, causing Sandslash to leap out of the ground.
Geodude
These are seen clinging to the rock walls early in the stage. Hit them with a Pester Ball to make them fall, and you will have a good shot momentarily before they climb back up.
Graveler
One can be found with the Geodude, and must be knocked down by knocking the two Geoduce near it down in rapid succession. However, a much better shot can be obtained later, when three Graveler are seen sleeping. Play the Pokéflute to wake them up, and they will do a tribal dance for you.
Magikarp
There is one splashing around in the beginning and many others that will jump out of the water when you throw an item in.
Gyarados
If you knock the Magikarp splashing around in the beginning out of the water, it will splash on land towards a Mankey, who will send it flying with a big punch. You'll encounter this Magikarp again later in the stage, flopping around on land. Abuse it further by hitting it with a Pester Ball, and it'll flop back into the water and up a nearby waterfall, evolving into Gyarados!
Staryu
During the second rapid section of the river, three of these will float by. Take a frontal picture of them and their gem will flash blue, and they will start to circle the ZERO-ONE.
Starmie
If you make any of the Staryu start to circle the ZERO-ONE, they will follow it to the end of the rapid section. There, they will leave and dive into a large whirlpool, emerging as Starmie.
Dragonite
At one point you will see a large whirlpool on the right of the stage. Throw three Pester Balls in, and a Dragonite will fly out.

Rainbow Cloud

A secret area above the island. Take pictures of all six Pokémon signs, and Professor Oak will realize the connection between them: They're all Pokémon which appear as constellations in the sky! Todd will be sent up into this cloud above the island to find the rarest Pokémon on the island...

Mew
File:SnapMew.jpg
The Elusive Mew
The whole course is a long encounter with Mew, and it is not unlikely that the whole course will be necessary to capture a good photograph of this Pokémon. Photos are distorted by Mew's bubble shield, resulting in nothing more than a big lens flare. So, it becomes necessary to knock this shield away, which is done in three parts.
  • The first part is the easiest. Mew taunts Todd by floating back and forth in front of the ZERO-ONE, making it wide open to be hit with a Pester Ball. When it is, it will fly away with its shield crackling with energy and evidently damaged. Do this three times, and the outer layer of the shield will fall off.
  • Despite having lowered defenses, Mew is playful and keeps taunting Todd, though this time in a more defensive manner. Mew will fly past in a different shield, presumably the inner layer. The idea is the same as the first part: hit it with a Pester Ball! It is more difficult, however, since Mew is now a moving target and only seen for a few seconds before disappearing behind Todd. After this is done three times, Mew's shield falls off again.
  • The final part is the most crucial. Mew will appear from behind, chasing its shield. Hit it with an item, and Mew will spin in place and then look up, briefly giving a perfect picture pose before teleporting away, leaving behind only a few sparkles. If you don't hit it quickly, you can still use the Dash Engine to get close to Mew for a large picture. If you successfully hit Mew, the step will be repeated to give you an opportunity for more pictures. If you don't, Mew will reclaim its shield and it'll be back to the second step, though requiring only one hit to knock the shield away instead of three.
Mew is such a rare Pokémon that any picture of it is a special shot with a large bonus. Take a big enough picture of it, and the photo can be worth nearly 10,000 points!
