The battles feature 63 different Pokémon. The battles range from classic duels like Ash's Pikachu vs. Team Rocket's Meowth, to type-themed battles like Venusaur vs. Sceptile, to Legendary battles like Groudon vs. Kyogre. As the book was published towards the beginning of the Advanced Generation series of the anime, it mainly focuses on Generation III Pokémon. At the end of the book, the reader can create their own battles by drawing Pokémon in the spaces.
