Release information

This card was released as a promotional card. In Japan, it was part of a special vending sheet available at the World Hobby Fair in 1998, along with Mewtwo and Mew. The English version of the card was one of four possible cards that one could receive by buying a ticket to the theatrical release of Mewtwo Strikes Back.

Trivia

  • The character illustration is the same used on the Japanese Toyota promotional Pikachu.
  • The English version has a gold foil stamp in the top right corner that reads "Kids WB Presents Pokémon The First Movie".

Origin

Recharge's Japanese name is that of Charge, a move in the Pokémon games that Pikachu can learn as a Pichu via breeding. Thunderbolt is a move in the Pokémon games that Pikachu can learn. This card's Pokédex entry comes from Pokémon Red and Blue, though it is slightly reworded.
