VS. Charizard II (Japanese: VSリザードン II VS. Charizard II) is the 324th round of the Emerald chapter in the Pokémon Special manga.

Synopsis

Outside the Battle Palace, Ruby, Sapphire gasp in shock as Palace Maven Spenser without warning, suddenly comes to them and uses his staff to raise up Sapphire's chin. The old man stares into her eyes and much to their amazement, comes to know that Sapphire has had some contact with the legendary myhical Blue Orb, which has the power to control the legendary titan Kyogre.

Inside the Battle Dome, the final tournament match between Emerald and Template:Tucker continues. Charizard continues to attack Metagross with Overheat, while the Steel/Psychic-type Pokémon uses every effort to protect itself from the flames.

Template:Brandon says that Tucker is almost unbeatable in battle, while the others look on. Suddenly, Scott asks Template:Anabel for a word separately and the Salon Maiden departs with the owner of the Frontier. The four remaining Frontier Brains watch her go Anabel off on Scott's car. Template:Greta then remembers that Template:Noland has found a way to locate Jirachi earlier than the enemy. She understands that it is probably not the best time to ask as they have gathered to lend their support to Tucker, but she is extremely curious about how it can be done.

Template:Lucy expresses her desire to know how Noland did it, and in reply, the Factory Head takes out three Poké Balls from his pocket. He explains that they are the key to his discovery, and Greta gasps in surprise when three Smeargle pop out of them. Noland reveals that they were wild Pokémon caught at the Artisan Cave.

Smeargle are the only known Pokémon to know the move Sketch, which allows them to use the exact copy of a move they have witnessed, and turn it into their own. Noland rationalized that, among the few dozens of Smeargle present when they had fought the armoured man at the Artisan's cave, at least some had managed to make a sketch of Jirachi, and so, began testing the group. Finally he was able to choose three, who were successful in copying the same move that Jirachi used.

Greta franatically asks him to name the move. Smiling, Noland commands a Wish from the painter Pokémon. The three Smeargle immediately clasp their hands together and close their eyes. Immediately, a shower of glittering stars fill the place. Noland states that Wish is a great move, but he has never seen Jirachi use it.

Noland decides that he will set up camera systems throughout the Frontier and the central system will alert them immediately when any such move is used, and hopefully, they will reach the source of the move before Guile Hideout does.

Lucy and Greta nod in excitement, and suddenly heard a crash from the stage. They quickly turn around, and see that Emerald's Metagross has finally succumbed to Charizard The powerful moves. The announcer declares Tucker to be the winner Tucker as all of Emerald's Pokémon have fainted. The Dome Ace waves at the crowd proudly while Emerald has trouble digesting his first loss.

Tucker grins, and admits that it was an excellent battle, but points out that Protect, which Metagross was re-using again and again, is a move whose success rate drops with continuous use. So, it becomes easier to break the user's defense in longer battles. Emerald departs from the place with a sigh.

The flamboyantly dressed Frontier Brain decides to go find his other companions and waves in the direction of the other Brains. Suddenly, he spots the familiar silhouette of Guile Hideout on the windows near the top of the gallery, and sends Salamence after him quickly.

On the Brains' private stand, Greta, Lucy, Brandon and Noland jump with shock, when suddenly Tucker swoops past them on the Template:Type2 Pokemon, and wonder what happened, as it does not seem like his usual performance gimmick. Suddenly, Noland's Pokégear beeps, and an electronic voice comes on to warn him that the move's presence has been detected. To everyone's astonishment, the location is right on the roof of the Battle Dome.

Back outside the Battle Palace, Sapphire wants to know what her contact with the Blue Orb has to do with Spenser, and whether or not it is related to what happened in the Battle Frontier. However, the Palace Maven simply closes his eyes in silence for a moment, then grins, carried away.

The old man turns around with a gentle laugh, and places his hand on his bald head, as if to appear foolish for feeling so inadequate in spite of so much experience in life. He notes that perhaps everyone who meets a person similar to him or her, is destined to be carried away, and walks away slowly.

Sapphire steals a glance at Ruby, who winks back at her. It turns out that he has recorded every happening in the Memory Fire Lighter Courtney gave him. The boy then pretends to agree with what the old Frontier Brain said and gleefully runs up to Sapphire, telling her it's time to get going. Once they are sure that Spenser could not hear them from this distance, he compliments Sapphire for forcing facts out of Spenser well, and Sapphire grins that she knew that the Palace Maven is keeping something from them.

Sometime later, when Spenser is about to return to the Battle Palace, he suddenly feels a different person behind him, and turns around to find Emerald standing at the base of the stairs with a certain appearance. Emerald says that he is for the Palace challenge, and Spenser is surprised, because he expected him the following day. Emerald grunts that he has abandoned his original plan due to some problems and according to his new time-table, he has to conquer the Palace this very day, followed by the Battle Tower and the Battle Dome.

Spenser has an amused grin as he beckons Emerald to follow him inside the Palace. They go through two heavy stone doors and the two become ready for thair battle.

Meanwhile, on the roof of the Battle Dome, glittery stars and a colorful light fill the entire territory. Brandon, Lucy, Tucker, Greta and Noland hurry in the direction of the source of the light, but fiund itself face to face with not only Jirachi, but also the armored villain.

The armored man unleashes a slew of attacks with his sword along with a Psybeam from his Surskit towards Jirachi, and the legendary wish-granting Pokémon cries in pain. Guile Hideout then raises a Poké Ball and throws it towards Jirachi quickly. After a few struggles, Jirachi finally gives in and is formally "captured" by the armoured man.

Picking his prize, the armored man grins broadly and evilly as he announces his triumphant capture of Jirachi, which now looks out of its Poké Ball with a helpless expression on its face...
