VS. Kyogre & Groudon II (Japanese: VS. カイオーガ & グラードン II VS. Kyogre & Groudon II or 超古代獣 目覚める The Ancient Monsters Awaken) is the 234th round of the Pokémon Adventures manga in the Ruby & Sapphire arc.
Synopsis
In Slateport City, Captain Stern has learned from Maryann and Tyler that Team Aqua and Team Magma have gone to the Seafloor Cavern. Stern reveals that something monstrous and powerful is stirring in the Cavern, and tells Maryann and Tyler to come with him.
In the Cavern, Amber and his Pelipper attack the slumbering Kyogre, finally managing to wake it up. It disappears into the ocean, and Archie gloats that they've managed to work faster than Team Magma, saying that their success in halting Mt. Chimney's activity helped tip the scales in their favor. Since Kyogre and Groudon are equally powerful, whoever wakes their Pokémon first will have the advantage.
In Fortree City, the assembled Gym Leaders are horrified by the tsunamis and flooding occurring all over Hoenn; Flannery blames the death of the volcano. Suddenly they receive a call from the director of the Pokémon Association, who informs them about an enormous monster that has suddenly appeared out in the ocean, and when it surfaces, it's revealed to be Kyogre. The director tells Winona to put all of Hoenn on the alert. Kyogre passes by the Abandoned Ship, hitting it with a Hyper Beam that knocks Plusle and Minun into the water, and continues on its rampage.
Back in the Cavern, Mitch and his Torkoal blast Groudon repeatedly with fire, and at long last it awakens with a mighty roar, burying into the earth and vanishing. Mitch asks Maxie whether its disappearance is cause for concern, but Maxie says it's just looking for a place to start rampaging. He then says that despite Team Aqua's apparent head start, it's really Team Magma who has the advantage, since Mack retrieved the two Orbs from Mt. Pyre. Maxie reveals that the Orbs will let him personally control both Groudon and Kyogre's movements, ensuring Team Magma's victory.
