The chapter starts with Blue entering the Silph Co. building, which is being held by Team Rocket. She arrives at the third floor, but falls right into a trap set by Sabrina. Her Psychic Pokémon cause Blue to have the illusion of a nightmarish world, but she is unfazed. Instead, she sends out her Blastoise, and orders it to attack Sabrina. However, Sabrina uses her Kadabra to Teleport behind Blue. After revealing that she created the barrier around Saffron City, she uses Kadabra's Psychic to knock Green's Poké Balls off of her waist. Kadabra then nearly kills the Blastoise, but when the blow is dealt, it turns out that it was merely Blue's Ditto. She sends out the real Blastoise, which quickly deals with the Kadabra using Mega Punch. Now Blue sends out Horsea. Horsea uses SmokeScreen to create a blanket of smoke around them, making seeing impossible for the Gym Leader. She watches Sabrina carefully through a pair of special goggles.

Back on the first floor, Lt. Surge is killing Red with electricity. He hurls him against the wall. When Red tries to retaliate with his Ivysaur, Lt. Surge tells Zapdos to use ThunderShock on Red, Ivysaur and Pika. They are immobilized, with Ivysaur nearly passing out. When Surge orders Zapdos to go for the kill and use all of its energy, Ivysaur uses Razor Leaf to rip a tear in the corrupt Gym Leader's insulated jumpsuit. All of the electricity goes directly into his body, leaving him knocked out. Red takes the Thunder Badge, as well as the rubber gloves that he was wearing, and goes up to the second floor, where he sees Blue about to be killed.
