Oranguru (Japanese: ヤレユータン Yareyuutan) is a recurring Pokémon character in the Sun & Moon series. It runs a café in the forest near Aina's Kitchen where people and Pokémon come to visit for drinks.

History

In the past, Oranguru helped Abe when he got lost in the forest. After tasting Oranguru's Pinap Juice, Abe got inspired to put the juice on Aina's Kitchen's menu. Rumors of Oranguru and its juice soon spread throughout Melemele Island, causing people to begin visiting the Sage Pokémon, eventually resulting in the creation of its café.

Oranguru first appeared in Mallow and the Forest Teacher!, where it took care of Mallow, who had fallen down a slope. In the same fashion as with her father, it served Mallow its Pinap Juice and listened to her recent problems with Abe. The two soon heard the screams of Mallow's Steenee, who had been captured by Team Rocket. Through the use of Instruct, Oranguru was able to free Steenee. After Team Rocket was taken away by Bewear, Ash, his classmates, and Abe arrived at Oranguru's bar and reunited with Mallow. After reuniting with its student, Oranguru urged Abe to apologize to his daughter. It was later seen serving Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny inside its bar.

In Now You See Them, Now You Don't!, Oranguru greeted Mallow who had unknowingly been Teleported to its place by Nebby, only to see them disappear moments later. It later watched as Nebby teleported a wet Ash and Pikachu to its bar before teleporting them away soon after. Oranguru was seen serving Meowth in Acting True to Form!. It listened to Meowth's problems as the Scratch Cat Pokémon felt dejected when Jessie and James favored an Alolan Meowth over him.

In I Choose Paradise!, Ash and his classmates noticed Oranguru on the boat to the Pokémon Paradise Resort, where it was revealed to be a regular customer of the resort. It was later seen checking in and resting in a hot spring near some Trainers and Pokémon. Near the end of the episode, it was nearby when Bewear and Team Rocket were resting in a hot spring after being defeated.

In Filling the Light with Darkness!, Oranguru found its bar busy with customers requiring drinks during their sleepy state induced by Necrozma.

In Securing the Future!, Oranguru joined the rest of Alola in showering Necrozma with light so it could return to its true form.

In A Recipe for Success!, Mallow visited Oranguru to get some Big Mushrooms for Aina's Kitchen, only to learn that Pokémon visited the café in addition to humans. Hoping to lessen Oranguru's workload, Mallow decided to stay and help it serve customers for the day. Among the customers was Tapu Koko, who gave Mallow the task of feeding it. After Mallow successfully made a dish that Tapu Koko liked, it awarded her a Grassium Z. As thanks for helping it, Oranguru gave Mallow the Big Mushrooms she wanted, as well as a worn-out Z-Ring.

Personality and characteristics

Oranguru is a kind and helpful Pokémon, as it brought an unconscious Mallow to its bar and also attended to her injured knee. It also stepped in to help her free Steenee from Team Rocket.

Oranguru serves any customer that visits its bar, human or Pokémon. Its customers often take advantage of their visits to vent out their frustrations. However, Oranguru always remains friendly and understanding with its customers, and even comforts them, as shown in Acting True to Form! when it comforted Meowth. Despite its patient nature, Oranguru has been shown to sometimes get tired of its customers, as seen in the Poké Problem segment of SM087, when it disapprovingly shook its head and sighed while seeing off its exhausted customers. A Recipe for Success! reveals that Oranguru uses various ingredients that are brought in by patrons of its bar as payment.

Oranguru has a good friendship with Abe. Abe has great respect for Oranguru, even referring to it as his teacher. He even decided to seek Oranguru's help in finding his daughter. While the two have a strong bond, Oranguru does not refrain from giving Abe a piece of its mind, as shown when it urged Abe to apologize to Mallow.
