Oliver (Japanese: オサム Osamu) is a recurring character in the Pokémon anime who appeared in The Mystery is History, A Parent Trapped!, and A Promise is a Promise.

Ash, Ritchie, and his friends met up with Oliver while they were searching for a mysterious Pokémon. What they didn't know is that it was Oliver who had found the mysterious Pokémon, which ended up being a baby Lugia named Silver. Oliver worked hard to protect Silver from Team Rocket, but they ended up capturing the child, as well as its parent and Ash and his friends.

Using his Lanturn, Oliver snuck into Team Rocket's underwater base and was able to help free the two Pokémon as well as his friends. Knowing that Silver would be safer with its parent than with him, he bid a tearful goodbye to his friend. He then said goodbye to Ash and his friends as they left the Whirl Islands.

Oliver's Lanturn
Lanturn is Oliver's only Pokémon, he mostly uses it to swim on. It first appeared with Oliver trying to cover up the secret of a Baby Lugia, later Team Rocket attempt to capture Silver and Oliver, Lanturn and Silver call for help from Ash and his friends. It was later revealed that Silver saved Lanturn and Oliver from drowning. After helping them Lanturn is shown to be good friends with Silver. In the next episode Lanturn with the gang attempts to free Lugia which fails.

Lanturn and Oliver attempt again by themselves to get into Team Rocket's underwater base which they successfully do. Lanturn is last seen saying goodbye to Silver and its mother.

None of its moves are known.

Oliver found Silver after it had wandered away from its parent. Despite the fact that he never captured it in a Poké Ball, Oliver claimed it as his own. He played with Silver all day long and they both enjoyed it. However, Team Rocket was also watching. Dr. Namba assigned Butch and Cassidy to capture Silver in order to lure the parent Lugia in. This was part of Namba's plan to attach his invention to Lugia, making it extremely angry and extremely powerful.

Ash, his friends, and Ritchie all teamed up to free Silver and its parent. After freeing Silver, Ash and Ritchie tried to convince the parent Lugia that not all humans are bad. Their convincing worked, since Lugia used Safeguard to protect Ash and the others from falling debris.

Oliver agreed that Silver should be released to its parent. Although he was saddened, he knew that it was for the best.
