Trivia

  • In Generation II, Bill's grandfather asks the player to bring him a round, green Pokémon that has leaves growing on its head, which is obviously Oddish. However, in those games, and in subsequent generations, Oddish's body (unless it is Template:Shiny2) is blue.
  • Oddish's shiny sprite dramatically changed from Generation II to Generation III. Before the leaves were bright yellow but now they are a light green.
  • Oddish is the only Pokémon so far to be revealed to have a scientific name.

Origin

Oddish is most likely based on a mandrake.

Name origin

Oddish's name is a combination of the words odd and the vegetable known as radish, although oddish is a word in itself, meaning somewhat odd. Nazonokusa may be taken to mean 謎の草, enigmatic grass.

In other languages

  • German: Myrapla
  • French: Mystherbe - From mystère (mystery) and herbe (herb). The whole word sounds very similar to just mystère.
  • Korean: 뚜벅쵸 Ttubakchyo
  • Chinese (Taiwan): 走路草 (Zou Lu Cao) - "Walking grass".
  • Chinese (Hong Kong): 行路草 (Xing Lu Cao) - "Walking grass" in Cantonese.
