Nosepass (Japanese: ノズパス Nosepass) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.

It evolves into Probopass when leveled up in either Mt. Coronet or Electric Rock Cave.

Biology

Physiology

Nosepass are Pokémon composed of hard, angular, bluish-colored rock. They closely resemble Easter Island Heads, as their main body is in the shape of one. Their most prominent feature are their bright red, triangular noses, which are highly magnetic. They also have arms and legs, but don't appear to have any joints and have small, circular holes on the undersides. Nosepass has similar circular holes on where one might expect its ears to be, and its eyes, covered by dark, somewhat mask-like markings, seem perpetually closed in appearance.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Their noses can function as electromagnets that point north. They cannot face each other since they all have the same polarity. Nosepass’s magnetism is stronger in cold seasons.

Behavior

It usually stands in one spot with its nose pointing north. It's said to be unmoving, but it actually can shift slightly. When endangered, Nosepass may protect itself by raising its magnetism and drawing iron objects to its body.

Habitat

Nosepass can be found in caves.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

This Pokémon apparently feeds on prey that are attracted by its magnetism. This may attract Magnemite (due to their documented liking for electronics and magnetic sources) that may not be edible.

Roxanne, the Gym Leader of Rustboro City, has a Nosepass which appeared in A Winner By a Nosepass. It was used in a gym battle against Ash Ketchum.

In Aipom and Circumstance, a young man named Hank used his Nosepass to track down Ash's missing Aipom.

In Nosing 'Round the Mountain!, Ash battled a boy named Alan and his Nosepass at Mt. Coronet. The Nosepass then evolved into Probopass.

A Nosepass also appeared in Battling the Generation Gap!.

A group of Nosepass appeared in Cheers on Castaways Isle! together with its evolution, Probopass.

In Pokémon Adventures, Roxanne's main Pokémon is a Nosepass. During her battle against Sapphire she used Nosepass's Magnet Pull so that her Aron cannot be switched. She saves its Poké Ball inside a hollowed-out book.

In the Pokémon Ruby-Sapphire manga

Roxanne's main Pokémon in the Pokémon Ruby-Sapphire manga is Nosepass. Roxanne's Nosepass first appears in Clefairy's Training Camp!!.

Ruby Nosepass's magnetic nose is always pointed to the north. If two of these Pokémon meet, they cannot turn their faces to each other when they are close because their magnetic noses repel one another.
Sapphire Nosepass had been said to be completely unmoving, with its magnetic nose pointed due north. However, close observation has revealed that the Pokémon actually moves by a little over 3/8 of an inch every year.
Emerald Its body emits a powerful magnetism. It feeds on prey that is pulled in by the force. Its magnetism is stronger in cold seasons.
FireRed Its magnetic nose consistently faces north. Travelers check Nosepass to get their bearings.

Diamond Its nose is a magnet. As a result, this Pokémon always keeps its face pointing north.

Trivia

  • Nosepass is the only pure Template:Type2 whose evolution is dual-type, as Probopass is Rock/Steel.
  • Nosepass is one of the three Pokémon to evolve at a certain area; the other two are Eevee and Magneton.
  • Nosepass is the only Pokémon which undergoes evolution in a specific area that is catchable in that same area.
  • Nosepass is the only Pokémon with Magnet Pull that is not itself a Steel-type, thus not affected by it.
    • Its evolution Probopass is, however.
  • Nosepass is the only non-Generation I Pokémon with a total EV yield of 1 to evolve into a Pokémon with a total EV yield of 3. The only other Pokémon to do so are Paras (into Parasect) and Slowpoke (who can evolve into Slowking, as well as Slowbro (who has an EV yield of 2)).
  • Nosepass and its evolution Probopass are the only Template:Type2 Pokémon that learn Discharge by level up.

It is probably based on the Moai statues of Easter Island.

Name origin

Nosepass's name may be a combination of nose and compass.
