Trivia

  • Natu had its species name changed within a generation (albeit only slightly). In Gold and Silver, its species was given as Littlebird, while Crystal added a space, changing it to Little Bird. Later games then changed its species name to Tiny Bird.
  • Natu is one of ten non-Bug, Template:Type2 Pokémon that cannot learn Fly. However, its evolution Xatu can learn it. It shares this trait with Drifloon and Drifblim, respectively.
  • Natu is one of five Pokémon with a different color palette in Platinum than in Diamond & Pearl. The other four are Xatu, Mareep, Ursaring, and Forretress.

Origin

Natu appears to be based on a Parrot. It also resembles a Quail.

Name origin

Natu's name may be a reference to Atu, an Aztec god. Atu is also the name of the first man of Samoan mythology. Natu is also Latin for birth. Its Japanese name appears to be a shortening of native.
