Mothim (Japanese: ガーメイル Garmeil) is a dual-type Bug/Flying Pokémon.

Biology

Physiology

Mothim has four tan-colored wings, two large and two small, with brown circles adorning them. The wings split to three at the tip of the larger wings and splits in two at the tips of the smaller wings. Mothim has a gray head, with two red and white antennae above its head. Mothim's body is gray also and its legs are white. It also has a small gray tail that splits into two. It doesn't matter what form Burmy was in before it evolved; Mothim will always look the same.

Gender differences

Mothim is male only. For the female counterpart, see Wormadam.

Trivia

  • Though there are three Pokémon based on moths (Venomoth and Dustox being the other two), Mothim is the only one that is part Flying.

Origin

Mothim is based on an adult Bagworm Moth, which only fully mature if male.

Name origin

Mothim's Japanese name is derived from 蛾 ga, moth, and male. Mothim comes from moth and him. Its German name, Moterpel, comes from Motte. Its French name, Papilord, comes from papillon and lord. Its Korean name, 나메일 (Namale), seems to be a combination of words 'moth' (나방, nabang) and male.
