Mismagius (Japanese: ムウマージ Mumargi) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.

It evolves from Misdreavus by a Dusk Stone.

Biology

Physiology

Mismagius is a purple ghost-like Pokémon that has the appearance of wearing a cloak. The three red spheres of Mismagius's necklace have a slightly elliptical shape to them, and its neck appears somewhat long and crooked. It has a round head and a large, elaborate, tufted feature atop it, the extremities of the tufts being a lighter color than most of the body. This feature resembles a witch's hat in shape. Mismagius has a skinny, red mouth that looks like a "W." There are extensions on the sides of Mismagius's lower body, the foremost ones looking more ragged in appearance than the ones in the back, that give Mismagius the appearance of wearing some kind of cloak.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Mismagius has the same abilities as Misdreavus, except Mismagius is more powerful and can now use Magical Leaf, Energy Ball, and Lucky Chant. Sometimes, powerful Mismagius can use more advanced incantations for various purposes, like changing its environment and creating scapegoats. It also has the ability to put spells on humans.

Since Mismagius is a fully evolved Pokémon, it is capable of using Hyper Beam and Giga Impact.

Behavior

Mismagius tend to hum incantations that can cause headaches and hallucinations. However, sometimes it hums Lucky Chants instead. It also sometimes puts spells of happines on humans if they are feeling down.

In the manga

In Pokémon Adventures

Platinum battled a Mismagius in her gym battle against Fantina in Round 372 and 373. It was very powerful and shrewdly manipulative using its illusion attacks, and using Trick Room to use Empoleon's speed against it, defeated both it and her Ponyta before Diamond's Munchlax finally took it down at the last minute.

Trivia

  • In the anime, a Mismagius was giving everybody nightmares. The only way that a Mismagius can have the move itself in Generation IV is by transferring a Misdreavus which has been tutored the move forward from Generation III.
  • Mismagius's base HP, Attack and Defense are all the same as Misdreavus, but its base Special Attack, Special Defense and Speed are higher.

Origin

Mismagius is based on the concept of mages or witches.

Name origin

Mismagius's name is derived from mischief and magus. Mumargi is a portmanteau of the words 夢魔 muma, nightmare, and mage.

In other languages

  • German: Traunmagil - From Traum (dream) and Magie (magic).
  • French: Magireve - From magie (magic) and rêve (dream).
  • Korean: 무우마직 Muumajik
  • Chinese (Taiwan): 夢妖魔 Mèng Yāo Mó - "Dream monster/sorceress". Possibly a combination of Misdreavus's Chinese name "夢妖" Mèng Yāo and 夢魔 Mèng Mó (nightmare).
  • Chinese (Hong Kong): 夢魔 Meng Mo
