Release information

This card was released as a promotional card. In Japan, it came with the February 1997 issue of CoroCoro Comic, released in January 1997. It was later released again as a special card at through the JR Stamp Rally in September 1997. Those taking part in the Stamp Rally were tasked to collect stamps by visiting participating stations as detailed in special stamp books available to buy at a number of those stations. Those that collected the required number of stamps were awarded a two-card set that included Mew and a variant Surfing Pikachu. The English version of the card was released through the Pokémon League in June 2002.

  • A misprint was made on the English version of this card. Its Psyshock attack was printed as saying "Confused" where it should say "Paralyzed".
  • Additionally, the "Pokémon Power: Neutral Shield" text on the English card is red, which was unusual for a Psychic-type card prior to the split of Pokémon Powers into Poké-Powers and Poké-Bodies. Typical Pokémon Powers on English Psychic-type cards are in blue, while some of their Japanese counterparts (including the Japanese version of this card) are in yellow.
  • This card is commonly known as Glossy Mew or Lily Pad Mew. The former refers to the Japanese version obtained in the CoroCoro Magazine, which was printed on glossy card stock as opposed regular stock, while the latter refers to the card's illustration.
  • The version obtained from the JR Rally is printed on the regular card stock. Therefore it is the card stock which differentiates the CoroCoro version from the JR Rally version.

Psyshock's Japanese name is that of Confusion, a move in the Pokémon games; however Mew cannot learn it. This card's Pokédex entry comes from Pokémon Red and Blue.
