In the anime
Melemele Island serves as the main setting for the Sun & Moon series, due to it being the location of the Pokémon School. It was first introduced in Alola to New Adventure!, where Ash and his mother Delia arrived to deliver a Pokémon Egg to Samson Oak. While there, Ash found out about the Pokémon School, and decided to stay behind and attend it. He also learned that the island's guardian deity, Tapu Koko, had taken a special interest in him.
Origin
Melemele Island's real-life counterpart is the Hawaiian island of Oahu. Golden yellow is the island's official color[1] and the ʻIlima is its official flower[2].
Name origin
Melemele is Hawaiian for yellow.
