Meganium (Japanese: メガニウム Meganium) is a Grass-type Pokémon.

It evolves from Bayleef starting at level 32. It is the final form of Chikorita.

Biology

Physiology

Meganium is a sauropod-like Pokémon. Instead of having a leaf coming out of its head, like its two previous forms, Chikorita and Bayleef, it has two stamen-like protrusions sprouting from the top of its nose, each tipped with its own anther. Also unlike its previous evolutions, its irises are yellow instead of red, and its four feet have three toes instead of a single one. The leaves around its neck seem to have sprouted into a large pink flower, with a yellow central pattern and white tips. Meganium has also reverted to the color it was as a Chikorita, whilst Bayleef's main body color had become a beige-yellow coloration.

Gender differences

A female Meganium has shorter antennae.

Special abilities

The aroma emanating from Meganium's petals soothes anyone that comes in contact with it. It calms aggressive feelings. In battle, Meganium uses this scent to calm its opponent and remove any desire for it to fight, giving it the upper hand. Meganium's breath has the power to revive dead grass and plants.

Since Meganium is a fully evolved Pokémon and the final evolution of a Grass-type starter Pokémon, it can use Hyper Beam, Giga Impact and Frenzy Plant.

Behavior

Meganium appear to be a very benevolent and docile species. In Odd Pokémon Out, Nurse Joy's Meganium was a peacemaker and tried to stop the battle between Ash's Grovyle and a Tropius. It was also shown that Meganium could heal Grovyle prior to the battle, however this may be isolated to Grass-types as Meganium is able to heal hurt or dead plants.

Habitat

Meganium are very rare Pokémon mostly found in large open plains or small forests with other Chikorita, Bayleef, and Meganium.

In the Pokémon Adventures manga

Main article: Megaree

In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Crystal's Bayleef evolved into Meganium to protect Gold, Silver, and herself from Lugia. In this new stage, it was able to help the other two starter Pokémon (who had also evolved) defend their Trainers from this imminent threat and carried Crystal on its back with its increased speed and size, and then participated in the conclusive battle against the Masked Man, revealed to be Pryce, trying to take down the evil mastermind but being subdued by his nimble ice puppets and doing little good in the battle.

Much later, it is revealed to have learned the Grass-type ultimate attack, Frenzy Plant, between the FireRed & LeafGreen arc and Emerald arcs, and helped destroy Guile Hideout's humongous, fake Kyogre.

Kimberly also has a Meganium that she uses to demonstrate Overgrow with.
