;Initial battle
Marshal forms a sync pair with Conkeldurr in Pokémon Masters EX. Marshal became a playable sync pair since the game's release.
* Before battle
:"Greetings, challenger. My name is Marshal. In order to master the art of fighting, I'm training under my mentor, Alder. My mentor sees your potential as a Trainer and is taking an interest in you. It is my intention to test you--to take you to the limits of your strength. Kiai!"

* After sending out last Pokémon
:"That's my final Pokémon! So we'll use our last bit of strength!"

* During battle (less than half HP)
:"Well, this may be the last. I will put everything into my next move!"

* When defeated
:"There is no single strongest Pokémon or sole best combination... That's why it is difficult to keep winning. However, I think a heart that desires strength and strives to grow stronger is a precious ideal. That is why I respect you--because you have these things."

* After being defeated
:"Whew! Well done! As your battles continue, aim for even greater heights!"

* General afterword
:"Representing the Pokémon League in the absence of the Champion has been my duty as Alder's student. However, there is nothing as empty as words not backed up by strength. A word in your ear, strong challenger... The other members of the Elite Four are far more powerful than I am. Do not underestimate them!"

* If defeated last
:"Challenger, if you defeat the entire Elite Four of the Pokémon League, you can go on to challenge the Champion. And you have earned that right. Return to the plaza in the center and check the statue."

;Rematch
* Before battle
:"I thank you deeply for the chance for another round of combat against you. In myself, I seek to develop the strength of a fighter. And shatter any weakness in myself! Prevailing with the force of my convictions! Victory, decisive victory, is my intention! Challenger, here I come!"

* During battle (the first non-KO HP loss)
:"Oh! Strong as usual. That makes my heart dance!"

* After sending out last Pokémon
:"The last one! I'll use the last bit of strength!"

* During battle (less than half HP)
:"Oh... This may be the last. I will put everything into the next move!"

* When defeated
:"There is no strongest Pokémon or single best combination... So, there are no guarantees of winning. But the determination to be strong and to continue to grow and improve is itself a great strength. It's the determination that you show that makes me respect you."

* After being defeated
:"There are still many strong Trainers in this Pokémon League. You should deepen your bonds with your Pokémon by battling with them."

* General afterword
:"In times past, I wandered all the regions of the world in pursuit of strength... One day, I met my mentor and began to grasp the wisdom of making strength an internal quality... And one day, I decided to become part of the Elite Four of Unova... For some reason, the battle we just had brought those fateful times back to mind."

* If defeated last
:"The strength shown by you and your Pokémon has deeply impressed me... Please, continue to the next room to face the strongest Trainer of the Unova region!"

;Victory Road
:"Of course! And no one can get away from themselves."
:"My mentor told me you were here, so I came to see. Listen. Even if you lose in battle, if you surpass what you've done before, you have bested yourself. Take the opportunity of a battle to look at your opponent, look at the Pokémon involved, and look at yourself!"
Cheren: "Are those Alder's words?"
:"Maybe. But I'm borrowing them. What I want are battles with Trainers who believe in themselves like that... When I mix it up with a Trainer like that, both my Pokémon and I get even stronger. Well then, I'll be waiting for your challenge in the Pokémon League."

:"Haaah! Haaah! Haiyaaaah!"
:"Whew! I guess we can wrap up our daily training there. What do you think, Conkeldurr?"
:"I know. The real problem is figuring out what will happen now..."
:"We came to Pasio to train and take our martial arts to new heights--to find our new path."

:"Hrmmm..."
:"Hm? I recognize that voice..."

:"Bruno!"

:"Yes. I was actually just looking for a good spot to train. Is that what you and Machamp are doing here?"
:"I see. It looks like it's going well. I could hear your battle shouts from way over there! They resonated deep within me."
:"I've never heard such intense shouts before."
:"What? Did we do something?"
:"Wha--?! You could tell that in a single glance?"
:"Conkeldurr and me...surf?"
:"... ... ..."
:"Wait... That's it!"
:"New encounters! New perspectives! They'll lead to new doors...and maybe a new path!"
:"Bruno, Brawly! How would you like to do even more intense training with me?"
:"We can form a team--and aim for the top of the PML as the ultimate Fighting-type team!"
:"Let's continue on our path to becoming masters of martial arts together!"

:"I haven't thanked you yet, Bruno and Brawly. If I hadn't teamed up with you, I wouldn't have gotten this strong."
:"Exactly. We still have a ways to go on that path, but we will continue to battle on!"
:"<Player>! We have all greatly improved our strength since forming a team together here on Pasio!"
:"We have transcended both superior and overwhelming power--get ready for our SUPREME power!"
:"Here we go! Hoo! Hah!"

*Face the Fight: Part 2
:"There is no such thing as the strongest Pokémon. Nor is there a perfect team combination."
:"I knew this, yet I thought that we could never lose. It seems that our path was steeper than we had thought."
:"Bruno... Brawly... Yeah, you're right."
:"<Player>... I feel like I saw your true nature during our battle."
:"You have a heart that cares for your friends and Pokémon."
:"Strengthen that heart of yours, and use it to rise to the top in this tournament! Best of luck!"

When Black and White arrive at the Battle Subway, they find Marshal and Alder battling each other. Despite Marshal seemingly gaining the upper hand, the battle ends in Alder's favor. The Mayor of Nimbasa City reveals that the battle between Marshal and Alder was part of a series of tests for Battle Subway before it opened to the public. Despite a lack of battling experience, White decides to take part in the next Battle Subway test. Later, Marshal finds Black sulking due to being jealous that White was chosen to test the Battle Subway and not him. Marshal tells Black to stop complaining and sends him off to help White catch her first Pokémon. After Black and White succeed in their mission to capture a Pokémon, Marshal notices that Black's newly caught Tirtouga used to belong to him before he released it a day earlier.

Marshal (Japanese: レンブ Renbu) is a Fighting-type Trainer and member of the Unova Elite Four.

In the core series games

In Pokémon Black and White, Marshal appears as a member of the Elite Four of Unova. He calls himself Alder's apprentice, though he is largely unaware of Alder's thoughts. He is first mentioned outside Twist Mountain when Alder says Cheren reminds him of Marshal due to the value he places on power. During the post-game, Marshal appears in Victory Road before the player's rematch with Cheren.

In Black 2 and White 2, Marshal first appears outside the south entrance of Twist Mountain, where he will prevent the player from entering, saying there has been a cave-in.

Marshal in Pokémon Adventures

Marshal is first seen in Nimbasa City, carrying an unconscious White after finding her unconscious underneath the Rondez-View Ferris Wheel. When Black sees Marshal with White, he assumes that Marshal attacked her and sends out his Pokémon to battle. After easily defeating Black's Pokémon, Marshal gives White to him and explains everything. As he leaves, Marshal tells Black to take White to a hospital. Afterward, Marshal arrives at the seabed, where he meets with Alder.

On Route 6, Marshal tries to convince Alder to not leave the Pokémon League, only for his pleas to be refused. They are approached by N, who challenges Alder to a Double Battle. Alder accepts N's challenge while Marshal referees the battle. In the end, Alder loses and eventually disappears, allowing Team Plasma to use his defeat as a means to justify their goals, which only increased the amount of released Pokémon and lowered the number of Pokémon League spectators.

At the Pokémon League, Marshal gathers with his fellow Elite Four members to make way for the tournament. Marshal, furious at how Team Plasma has used Alder's defeat to justify their goals, asks his allies to help join in the fight against them. Much to his disappointment, none of them agree with his wishes. The four then watch as spectators for the tournament before their battles can begin. Although the tournament is won by Black, the event is interrupted by Team Plasma, who attacks the stadium by surrounding it with N's Castle. The Elite Four travel on Shauntal's Golurk to try and confront N at the top of the castle, but they are attacked by Hood Man, who uses Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus against them to try and figure out how to activate the three Pokémon's Therian Formes. After gaining sufficient information, Hood Man escaped, taking the Pokémon with him.
