Mantine (Japanese: マンタイン Mantain) is a dual-type Water/Flying Pokémon.

It evolves from Mantyke via level-up with a Remoraid in the party.

Biology

Physiology

A notable change appears on Mantine, It is obvsiously big, Its flipper are now wider, It seems to have loss its marking on its top side in replace of two rings. Its "antennaes" have become longer, and has produce a streamer-like tail. It also posseses two pairs of gill slits on their undersides.

Special abilities

Mantine has the ability to fly out of the water if it gains enough speed.

Behavior

Mantine are mostly docile. They allow Remoraid to latch onto themselves. When they build up speed, they jump out of the water.

Habitat

Mantine like to live in large open seas.

Diet

Mantine is probably a filter-feeder that lives on plankton.

In the anime

Mantine first appeared as a dreamed up Pokémon in Spell of the Unown. Molly Hale used it against Misty's Staryu.

Mantine was also used by a trainer that was searching for the Silver Feather in Mantine Overboard.

In Just Add Water, Mantine appeared under the ownership of Dorian, owner of the unofficial Coastline Gym.

Brock's mother, Lola, owns a Mantine which was used in her battle against Brock's Onix in A Family That Battles Together, Stays Together.

In Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea, Jack Walker uses his capture styler on one of these Kite Pokémon so it can help Jack get away from The Phantom during the begining of the movie.

In Steamboat Willies!, a Mantine which belongs to the owner of a ship helps Ash and Dawn save the ship from falling off a water fall.

In the manga

Pokémon Special

Gold encounters a Mantine as he floats in the sea in Template:PSV, which helps him in his attempt to defeat Lugia, powered by the Remoraid Gold received for flight transport.

Mantine is seen as one of the Pokémon swimming in the headquarters of Team Aqua.

Noland later gives Emerald one of his Mantine from the Battle Factory. It bonds with Gold's.

Trivia

• The only difference between Skarmory and Mantine's stat distribution is in their defenses; Skarmory has a high Defense stat, while Mantine has a high Special Defense stat.
• Mantine's Generation IV sprite has no Remoraid attached to its wings, unlike past sprites. Note that this is also the same generation that introduces Mantyke, which requires a Remoraid in the party in order to evolve into Mantine.
• Mantine is one of nine non-Bug, Template:Type2 Pokémon that cannot learn Fly.
• Despite the fact that Mantine is featured in Crystal, Remoraid, its partner, is not found in the wild.
• Manine is the second pokemon to have more than one pokemon in its sprite.
  • The first is Kangaskhan.

Origin

It is similar to a manta ray, with some kite-like aspects.

Name origin

Mantine's name, an anglicization of its Japanese name, may be a combination of manta and marine.
