It also possesses two pairs of gill slits on its underside, and what appear to be small fangs protruding out of its mouth.

Unlike real-life manta rays, which can only "fly" through water, Mantine can literally fly in the air if they gain enough speed. They soar gracefully out of the water.

Trivia
- The only difference between Skarmory and Mantine's stat distribution is in their defenses and attack; Mantine has 80 base Special Attack and 140 base Special Defense, but Skarmory has 80 base Attack and 140 base Defense.
- Mantine is tied with Kyogre for having the highest Special Defense out of all Template:Type2 Pokémon.
- Mantine is one of ten non-Bug, Template:Type2 Pokémon that cannot learn Fly.
- However, the Mantine belonging to Gold knows how to use Fly.
- Despite the fact that Mantine is featured in Crystal, Remoraid, its partner and later cause for evolution from Mantyke, is not found in the wild.
- Mantine is the second Pokémon to have more than one Pokémon in one of its sprites. The first is Kangaskhan, although Kangaskhan is just holding its own baby, not a Pokémon of an entirely different species.
- However, the Remoraid is absent from all of its Generation IV sprites.
Origin
It is similar to a manta ray, with some kite-like aspects.
Name origin
Mantine's name, an anglicization of its Japanese name, may be a combination of manta and marine. It may also be a combination of manta and brine.
