Littleroot Town
Littleroot Town is one of the the sixteen cities of Hoenn, the land in which the games Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald take place. Littleroot Town is where players of Generation III games, as well as several other notable Trainers, start their Pokémon journeys in Hoenn.
The only exit of the town is north, which leads to Route 101 and Oldale Town beyond.
Places of interest
Professor Birch's Lab
In the southeast corner of town is Professor Birch's Laboratory. Here, Pokémon trainers just beginning their quest can receive either a Treecko, Torchic, or Mudkip from Professor Birch. Instead of obtaining the player's starter Pokémon here, the player must gain it on Route 101 while saving Professor Birch during the storyline. Professor Birch's assistant often looks after the laboratory by himself because Professor Birch likes doing field work instead of being inside his laboratory. Professor Birch's house is also located in the northwest side of the town.
Player's House
This is the house where the player lives before beginning their journey. The game begins with him or her moving into Littleroot from the Johto region. The player's mom lives here, while Norman, the players father drops by and stays awhile. After the player has left town for the first time, going home and talking to Mom will fully rest/restore all of the player's Pokémon, just like a Pokémon Center.
There are two levels, the first being a living room and kitchen area, while upstairs on the second level is where the player's bedroom is kept. It contains a clock that the player must set at the start of the game to keep track of the time, a Nintendo GameCube with a Game Boy Advance hooked up to it as a controller, and a PC to store items and Pokémon. The rug can be decorated with Poké Dolls.
Demographics
Littleroot Town's population is 8 (excluding the main character, who lives, but does not often reside, there). This means that it is the smallest town in Hoenn.

Pokémon
In Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, no Pokémon can be found or obtained found here, as Professor Birch give the player their starter Pokémon on Route 101. In Pokémon Emerald, Professor Birch hands the player one of the Johto starters after completing the Pokédex.

In the anime
In the anime, Littleroot Town is first seen in Get the Show on the Road!, it is where Ash meets May and Professor Birch for the first time while trying to save his Pikachu. May who lives in Petalburg City goes off on a journey to Johto, where as mentioned above is where the player moved from. It is also the hometown of Harrison.
Strangely, Littleroot Town in the anime is shown as quite a large town with a couple of tall buildings and towers. It also shows Littleroot Town as having a port, despite being clearly landlocked in the maps of both the game and anime.
Trivia
- The town's motto is a reference to how in Red, Blue, and Yellow all the towns were named after colors, and how the games of Generations I and II caused the towns to be very lacking in any but one color so as to preserve the palette.
- Littleroot Town is unique among all towns that the player starts in. While all of them lack long grass, Littleroot is the only one without an area in which the player can fish.
- Unlike previous Pokémon games, in Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, the player does not receive their starter Pokémon within the town itself, instead doing so upon rescuing Professor Birch on Route 101. However, this trend is continued in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum.
- The television inside the player's house plays a different program than the others. When walking up to it, it says "There is a movie on TV. Two men are dancing on a big piano keyboard.", whereas any other TV in Hoenn will say "MOM/DAD might like this program..........................."
- The movie playing may be the 1988 Tom Hanks film Big.
- Whereas Hoenn coincides with Kyushu, the location of Littleroot coincides with the city of Sasebo.
- This is the only hometown where the player cannot fish for Pokémon, as there is no body of water in Littleroot.
Name origin
Littleroot is a compound word formed from little, referring to its size, and roots, referring to the fact that the families of both the player and his/her alternate-gender counterpart live here.
