The Pokémon in Pokémon Gold and Silver were just a few of many different designs that Game Freak created. Only 100 new Pokémon were added, and even those often went through redesigns before making it into the final product.
Unreleased Pokémon
Kurusu
- This creature resembles a seal, but doesn't seem to have much relation to any Pokémon as of yet, meaning its design or concept may have been totally scrapped.
Honōguma
- Honōguma's name is a combination of 炎 honō for flame, and 熊 kuma for bear.
Unnamed mammal
- A strange creature that appeared as art, but was never released.
Unnamed turtle
- A turtle Pokémon that was never released.
Unown Forms
- Forms of Unown that were never released. Appeared in the The Spell of the Unown.
Altered Pokémon
Bukū
- Bukū's name is derived from "fugu", the Japanese word for blowfish.
Happa
- Happa's name simply means "leaf" in Japanese. The early design of Chikorita.
Kirinriki
- Concept art for an early design of Girafarig.
Mariru
- This purple creature was early art for Marill.
Pikachu
