This is a list of all key items that are found in Generation III. Please note that some of these are also part of the list of key items in Generation I due to Pokémon Red and Green being remade, and several appear in multiple generations.
Some items are specific to a certain region, while others can be found in both Kanto and Hoenn. Those that can be will be indicated.

Acro Bike
- Purpose: Use to move faster than walking. Performs tricks.
- Description: A folding bicycle capable of jumps and wheelies.
- Location: Mauville City
Auroraticket
- Purpose: Allows players to access Birth Island.
- Description:

Basement Key
- Purpose: Allows access to New Mauville.
- Description: The key for New Mauville beneath Mauville City
- Location: Mauville City
Berry Pouch
- Purpose: Holds Berries.
- Description: A pouch for carrying Berries. It is attached to the bag's compartment for important items.

Bicycle
- Purpose: Use to move faster than walking.
- Description: A folding bicycle that allows faster movement than the running shoes.
- Location: Cerulean City
Bike Voucher
- Purpose: Exchange for Bicycle.
- Description: Take this voucher to the bike shop in Cerulean City and exchange it for a bicycle.
- Location: Vermilion City
Blue Orb
Card Key
- Purpose: Opens doors in Silph Co.
- Description: A card-type key that unlocks doors in Silph Co.'s head office in Saffron City.
- Location: Silph Co.
Claw Fossil
- Purpose: Take to Devon Corporation in Rustboro City to obtain a revived Anorith.
- Description: A fossil of an ancient, seafloor-dwelling Pokémon.
- Location: Route 111
Coin Case
- Purpose: Holds up to 9999 coins for use at the Rocket Game Corner or Mauville Game Corner.
- Description: A case for holding coins obtained at the Game Corner. It holds up to 9,999 coins.

Contest Pass
- Purpose: Allows players to participate in Pokémon Contests.
- Description:

Devon Goods
- Purpose: To be delivered to Captain Stern.
- Description:

Devon Scope
- Purpose: Reveals hidden Pokémon.
- Description: A device by Devon that signals any unseeable Pokémon.
- Location: Route 120
Dome Fossil
- Purpose: Take to the Pokémon Lab on Cinnabar Island to obtain a revived Kabuto.
- Description: A fossil of an ancient, seafloor-dwelling Pokémon. It appears to be part of a shell.
- Location: Mt. Moon
Eon Ticket
- Purpose: Allows players to access Southern Island.
- Description:
- Location: Nintendo Event*
Fame Checker
- Purpose: Tells about famous characters.
- Description: A device that enables you to recall what you've heard and seen about famous people.
- Location: Cerulean City
Go-Goggles
- Purpose: Allows players to enter the desert sandstorm.
- Description: Nifty goggles that protect eyes from desert sandstorms.
- Location: Lavaridge Town
Gold Teeth
- Purpose: Warden Slowpoke's false teeth. Return them to him for HM04 (Strength).
- Description:

Good Rod
- Purpose: Allows the player to fish in bodies of water. Better than the Old Rod.
- Description: A new, good-quality fishing rod. Use it by any body of water to fish for wild Pokémon.

Helix Fossil
- Purpose: Take to the Pokémon Lab on Cinnabar Island to obtain a revived Omanyte.
- Description: A fossil of an ancient, seafloor-dwelling Pokémon. It appears to be part of a seashell.
- Location: Mt. Moon
Itemfinder
- Purpose: Locates items hidden on the ground.
- Description: A device used for finding items. If there is a hidden item nearby when it is used, it emits a signal.

Lift Key
- Purpose: Allows operation of the elevator in the Rocket Hideout.
- Description: A key that operates the elevator in Team Rocket's hideout. It bears the Team Rocket logo.

Mach Bike
- Purpose: Use to move much faster than walking. Able to climb muddy slopes.
- Description: A folding bicycle that doubles your speed or better.
- Location: Mauville City
Magma Emblem
- Purpose: Use it to access Team Magma's lair.
- Description: A medal-like item in the same shape as Team Magma's mark.

Meteorite
- Purpose:
- Kanto: Deliver to Lostelle's father on Two Island at Bill's request
- Hoenn: Return to Professor Cozmo.
- Description:
- Kanto: A meteorite that fell from space onto Mt. Moon long ago. It is very lumpy and hard.

Mysticticket
- Purpose: Allows players to access Navel Rock.
- Description:

Oak's Parcel
- Purpose: Deliver to Professor Oak to receive a Pokédex.
- Description: A parcel to be delivered to Prof. Oak from Viridian City's Pokémon Mart.
- Location: Viridian City
Old Amber
- Purpose: Take to the Pokémon Lab on Cinnabar Island to obtain a revived Aerodactyl.
- Description: A piece of amber that contains the genes of an ancient Pokémon. It is clear with a reddish tint.
- Location: Pewter Museum of Science
Old Rod
- Purpose: Allows the player to fish in bodies of water.
- Description: An old and beat-up fishing rod. Use it by any body of water to fish for wild Pokémon.

Old Sea Map
- Purpose: Allows access to Faraway Island
- Description:
- Location: Nintendo Event*
PokéBlock Case
- Purpose: Allows admission to the Safari Zone, holds PokéBlocks.
- Description: A case for holding Pokéblocks made with a berry blender.
- Location: Slateport City (Ruby, Sapphire), Lilycove City (Emerald)
Poké Flute
- Purpose: Awakens sleeping Pokémon.
- Description: A flute that is said to instantly awaken any Pokémon. It has a lovely tone.
- Location: Lavender Town
Powder Jar
- Purpose: Holds Berry powder from Berry Crush.
- Description: A jar for storing Berry Powder made using a Berry Crusher.
- Location: Cerulean City
Red Orb
Rainbow Pass
- Purpose: Allows players to access the Sevii Islands.
- Description: A pass for ferries between Vermilion and the Sevii Islands. It features a drawing of a rainbow.
- Location: One Island
Root Fossil
- Purpose: Take to Devon Corporation in Rustboro City to obtain a revived Lileep.
- Description:
- Location: Route 111
Ruby
- Purpose: Give to Celio along with Sapphire to set up the Network Machine on One Island
- Description: An exquisitely beautiful gem that has a red glow. It symbolizes passion.
- Location: Mt. Ember
Sapphire
- Purpose: Give to Celio along with Ruby to set up the Network Machine on One Island
- Description: An exquisitely beautiful gem that has a blue glow. It symbolizes honesty.
- Location: Rocket Warehouse on Five Island
Scanner
- Purpose: Exchange for a DeepSeaScale or DeepSeaTooth.
- Description:

Secret Key
- Purpose: Unlocks the door of Cinnabar Gym
- Description: The key to Cinnabar Island Gym's front door. It is colored red and decorated.

Silph Scope
- Purpose: Allows Template:Type2 Pokémon to be seen.
- Description: A scope that makes unseeable Pokémon visible. It is made by Silph Co.
- Location: Rocket Hideout
Soot Sack
- Purpose: Allows ashes to be collected.
- Description: A sack used to gather and hold volcanic ash.
- Location: Route 113
S.S. Ticket
- Purpose: Allows admission to the S.S. Anne/S.S. Tidal.
- Description:
- Kanto: The ticket required for sailing on the ferry S.S. Anne. It has a drawing of a ship on it.
- Hoenn: The ticket required for sailing on a ferry.

Storage Key
- Purpose: Allows a door to be opened on the Abandoned Ship.
- Location: Abandoned Ship
Super Rod
- Purpose: Allows the player to fish in bodies of water. Best Rod of all.
- Description: An awesome, high-tech fishing rod. Use it by any body of water to fish for wild Pokémon.

Teachy TV
- Purpose: Teaches players how to capture Pokémon.
- Description: A television set that is tuned to a program with useful tips for novice Trainers.
- Location: Viridian City
TM Case
- Purpose: Holds TMs and HMs.
- Description: A case that holds TMs and HMs. It is attached to the bag's compartment for important items.
- Location: N/A
Town Map
- Purpose: Displays a map of Kanto and the Sevii Islands.
- Description: A very convenient map that can be viewed anytime. It even shows your present location.
- Location: Pallet Town
Tri Pass
- Purpose: Allows players to access the three northernmost Sevii Islands.
- Description: A pass for ferries between One, Two, and Three Island. It has a drawing of three islands.
- Location: Cinnabar Island
Wailmer Pail
- Purpose: Allows Berries to be watered.
- Description: A tool used for watering berries and plants.
- Location: Route 104
Vs Seeker
- Purpose: Allows Trainers to be rechallenged.
- Description: A device that indicates Trainers who want to battle. The battery charges while traveling.
