Leon originally started out as a Trainer at the age of 10 with his partner Charizard when he entered the Gym Challenge after he was endorsed by Rose, who saw talent in him. He proceeded to win his first-ever Gym Challenge and become the Champion of the Galar League, without losing a single battle. Since then, he and his partner have remained undefeated in every league and exhibition they participated in. He has been referred to as "the unbeatable Champion" and "the greatest Trainer in all of Galar." He is considered a hero to many Trainers in Galar. However, he is also known for his poor sense of directions. His catchphrase is "Let's have a champion time!". According to Mustard, Leon was once his best student at the Master Dojo, but he was never able to finish his training there, as he never made it to the Towers of Two Fists due to his horrible sense of direction.

Leon first appears in the games' introduction movie, where he is introduced as Galar's undefeated Champion by Chairman Rose at Wyndon Stadium. He exchanges greetings with his opponent Raihan, who is challenging him with Duraludon, before Gigantamaxing his Charizard. Their subsequent battle is not shown on-screen, but Leon defeats Raihan to retain his title.

Later, Leon travels via train to Wedgehurst, where he entertains a crowd outside Wedgehurst Station with Charizard until Hop and the player meet him. Together, the trio return to Hop and Leon's home in Postwick. Once there, Leon reveals the gifts he brought for Hop and the player — the starter Pokémon Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobble. He allows the player and Hop to choose which of the three Pokémon they want, then adds the remaining Pokémon to his own party. Leon then watches the battle between the player and Hop before joining in a barbecue dinner he and Hop's mother hosts at their home.

Together, the trio return to Hop and Leon's home in Postwick. Once there, Leon reveals the gifts he brought for Hop and the player — the first partner Pokémon Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobble. He allows the player and Hop to choose which of the three Pokémon they want, then adds the remaining Pokémon to his own party. Leon then watches the battle between the player and Hop before joining in a barbecue dinner he and Hop's mother hosts at their home. Hop also asks Leon to endorse him and the player for the Gym Challenge, but he is initially hesitant to do so because of their inexperience. Later, when Hop and the player run into the Slumbering Weald to save a Wooloo, Leon eventually runs in and finds them unconscious, and manages to save the Wooloo.

After the events of main story, he gained ownership of Rose Tower and transformed it into the Battle Tower. His reason for this was to fulfill a lifelong dream he had while he was still Champion, where Galarian Trainers can become the strongest in the world. Another reason behind his ownership of the Battle Tower was so that he can never get lost inside it. Some say Leon has become more lively than when he was Champion and is currently having a hard time looking for a new catchphrase to use.
Leon meets Hop and the player again at Professor Magnolia's Laboratory, and after Magnolia encourages him to endorse Hop and the player, he asks them to engage in a battle. After the player defeats Hop in a formal battle, Leon decides to write letters of endorsement, ensuring they are eligible to participate in the Gym Challenge.

In the English versions of the games, Hop refers to Leon by the nickname Lee. In all other languages, he is merely referred to as "older brother" or "brother".
Leon appears throughout the player's journey. During the Champion Cup, Leon invites the player and Hop to a dinner after the semifinals, but he ends up late due to having a heated, passionate conversation with Rose about the future of Galar atop Rose Tower. Leon argues that he must fulfill his duty as a Champion primarily before dealing with the distant future. Hop and the player manage to find him after dealing with several Macro Cosmos employees and Oleana, and manage to find him. Later, when the player wins the finals, before they can have a final match with Leon, Rose interrupts the League to announce that he has summoned Eternatus and intends to solve the future energy crisis by bringing about the Darkest Day. Leon rushes to Hammerlocke Stadium to deal with the situation, and manages to hold off Eternatus until Hop and the player arrive, but is unable to catch Eternatus and is left to take the resulting energy blast from Eternatus breaking out of his Poké Ball. He spends the next few days recovering from his injuries after the player, Hop, Zacian, and Zamazenta successfully stop Eternatus. The player and Leon finally have their grand showdown, which invites an incredibly large amount of fans across Galar. The player prevails over Leon, and becomes the new Champion.

After the events of the main story, Leon succeeds Rose as chairman of the Galar League and owner of Rose Tower, which he has transformed into the Battle Tower.

After the player has completed the events of The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra, Leon calls the player and invites them, along with Hop, Avery or Klara, Peony, and all of the Gym Leaders to participate in the Galarian Star Tournament, an event he created for the Galar League that is focused on Multi Battles. After the first Galarian Star Tournament, Leon announces that there will be many more Star Tournaments held in the future. It is later revealed that he received the funding for the tournament from Sordward and Shielbert as their way of atoning for the crimes they committed in the postgame.

In the English versions of the games, Hop refers to Leon by the nickname Lee. In all other languages, he is merely referred to as "older brother" or "brother" (Japanese: アニキ big bro).

:"Leon is known far and wide for taking part in the Gym Challenge at the tender age of 10 years old—and even more so for claiming victory in the Champion Cup on his first attempt. Ever since that victory, he and his partner Charizard have remained unbeaten in both League and exhibition matches. He is called "the unbeatable Champion" and is a hero to many Trainers. He has but one weakness: a dismal sense of direction. But don't worry—wherever he ends up, he makes sure everyone has a champion time!"

:"Leon's dream, even when he was still the Champion, was to make Galarian Trainers the strongest Trainers in the world. In order to fulfill that dream, he has rebuilt Rose Tower into the Battle Tower, a facility dedicated to Pokémon battles. People say that he seems even more lively now than he was as Champion. Leon has also commented that another reason he likes the tower so much is that it's impossible to get lost inside. ===Pokémon Masters EX===
;Wyndon Stadium (intro)
Leon (Masters)
:"You know I don’t lose battles, Raihan!"
Leon forms a sync pair with Leon, Leon, Calyrex Calyrex, and Dragapult in Pokémon Masters EX. His Charizard is capable of Gigantamaxing, while his Eternatus is capable of Eternamaxing, and his Dragapult is capable of Dynamaxing. Leon became a playable sync pair on February 26, 2021.
:"Charizard! Dynamax!"

;Wedgehurst
Leon has also made notable appearances in the game's Main Stories, Legendary Adventures and the Villain Arc.
:"Hello, hello, Wedgehurst! Your Champion, Leon, is back! I promise I’ll keep doing my best to deliver the greatest battles for you all to watch!"
:"Well, thank you for that! I hope you’ll all carry on training up your Pokémon and never shy from battle. Then come challenge me for the Champion title!"
:"Too true that Charizard is blazingly strong. But other Pokémon can be strong as well! That’s why I want the strongest of challengers to fill the Gym Challenge and come battle me!"
:"My wish is for Galar’s Trainers to work together to become the strongest in all the world!"
:"Hop!"
:"So, my number-one fan in all the world has come out of his way to pick me up!"
:"Look at you, Hop! I reckon you’ve grown...exactly an inch and a quarter since the last time I saw you!"
:"And these bright eyes over here... I’ve got it! You must be <player>—am I right? I’ve heard loads about you from my little brother."
:"I’m the Galar region’s greatest-ever Pokémon Champion—and a massive Charizard fan, too. People call me the unbeatable Leon!"
:"That Hop... Always wanting to be the best, isn’t he? With a proper rival of his own, I bet he’d push himself to become something truly special..."
:"Well, everyone! I bid you farewell for today! But don’t you fret... I’ll always be around to make sure everyone in Galar can have a champion time!"

:"I bet you will be, Hop. That’s why I brought along these Pokémon for you and <player>. So the two of you can battle and train and grow stronger together...to try to reach me!"
:"And you’ll come with me! Charizard will show you the ropes. He’s strict—but real strong and real kind, too!"

* The following day
Pokémon UNITE
:"You spent the whole night with that new partner of yours, right, Hop? You two getting on all right? Understanding one another? Maybe even built up a bit of love?"
Leon and his Charizard appear in Pokémon UNITE as an enemy Trainer to fight during the Legacy Trainer Showdown event between September 9, 2022 and October 6, 2022. It took place on Theia Sky Ruins. His Charizard starts the battle as Charmander and can evolve to Charmeleon and then Charizard during the battle. The other members of his team are Cynthia, Korrina, Raihan, and Green. The event later returned between April 21, 2023 and May 21, 2023.
:"Then listen up, new Trainers! Believe in yourself and your Pokémon! If you trust in one another and carry on battling side by side long enough, then someday..."
:"you might even become worthy rivals for me, the unbeatable Champion!"
:"Oh, and you think you’re worthy of calling yourself such a proper Trainer already, Hop? Guess I’ll be the judge of that! Let’s see how you handle yourself in a battle against your friend if he's/she’s up for it."
:"What do you say? Willing and ready to take Hop on in the first-ever Pokémon battle of your life?"
:::Yes : "Believe in your partner Pokémon! And care for them, too, with all your heart. Do those two things, and I’m certain you’ll learn to choose the moves that suit your Pokémon. And more importantly...to have a champion time battling with them!"
:::No : "Than how about I give you a spot of advice. You don’t want to go getting so caught up in things that you forget everything you’ve accomplished till now. Take a moment to jot down what you’ve done, in order to save a record of your progress!"
:"Looks like everyone’s on board, Pokémon and Trainers alike? Then let’s do this!"

* After defeating Hop
Leon and his Charizard also appear as an enemy Trainer in the recurring Theia Sky Ruins event. It also takes place on Theia Sky Ruins. This event has Casual, Intermediate, Expert, and Extreme difficulties. The composition of the opposing team varies depending on the event and the difficulty. The full team consists of himself, Cynthia, Raihan, Korrina, and Green. In Cynthia themed events, Leon only appears on the Expert and Extreme difficulties, being replaced by an Ace Trainer on lower difficulties. In a Leon themed event, Leon's team includes Korrina, Raihan, Cynthia, and Green. On the Casual difficulty, all four of the other trainers are replaced by Ace Trainers. On the Intermediate difficulty, only Cynthia and Green are replaced by Ace Trainers. In this mode, Leon and his Charizard never use Holowear.
:"You and your Pokémon all fought hard. Made me almost want to let out Charizard and join in on all the fun! Good effort out there, <Pokémon>! Why don’t I get you all sorted?"
:"And, <player>, you’ve got real promise! In fact, I’ve got a favor to ask you... Be a real rival to Hop, would you? Push him, and make the both of you stronger!"
:"You? Join the Gym Challenge? You think you’re ready for the single greatest competition in the Galar region? Not putting the cart before the Rapidash there, Little Brother?"
:"If that’s really what you want to do, you two have a whole lot you need to learn about Pokémon."
:"Especially your friend <player>. Before you think about getting Gym Badges, best to think about getting a Pokédex."
:"A Trainer’s Pokédex helps them learn lots of things about all the Pokémon out there, including their strengths. But it’s more than just a collection of data, you know. It’s a record of a Trainer’s love and passion for Pokémon training!"
:"That’s the kind of enthusiasm a Trainer needs! I’ll let the professor know to expect you."

;Slumbering Weald
Unlike other Trainers in this game, Leon and the non-Ace Trainer members of her team are represented with two-dimensional artwork instead of three-dimensional models. In the pre-battle splash screen, Leon has a custom Unite Snapshot depicting him and his Charizard with two dimensional artwork. (The normal display of the Unite License/Holowear is not used.) This means his Battle Item is not shown. However, he uses X Attack.
:"Hop! <player>!"
:"Oh, that's nice to hear from the little brother who had me worried sick! I'd been waiting ages for your two, and you never showed! Of course I came looking for the both of you!"
:"The little chap's just fine. Though all of you had fainted by the time I found you here. You know this place is out of bounds... But it took courage to come in here all the same. And I can understand well enough why you did it. You did good, Hop!"
:"Attacked by a mad Pokémon? What are you talking about, Hop?"
:"Your moves passed right through it? So, the fearsome Pokémon they say live in the Slumbering Weald... Are they actually illusions or something? Get strong enough and maybe the two of you could be the ones to reveal the truth someday. For now, let's simply get out of this place. You'll be all right now that I'm here with you!"

;Wedgehurst
Leon appears as a Background element for a Trainer's Unite Snapshot. It is the same background Leon's own Snapshot uses, but it excludes Charizard. Leon's outfit can be worn as a Trainer Outfit by players. (It does not consist of separate items and cannot be worn with any additional items.)  This outfit is rendered as a model, unlike Leon. Leon's signature pose is usable as a Trainer's Pose in Unite Snapshot, with the item named after the character.
:"Well done! You reached the goal and managed to find the Pokémon Research Lab! You did a far sight better than I did my first time. I'm hopeless with directions. See how your world has already grown, all thanks to having Pokémon with you? I know I'm sure glad I've got Charizard with me...to keep me from getting lost all the time. Now, in we go!"

:"I've got to give it to Professor Magnolia. Everything in here looks fascinating..."
Artwork
:"Good to see you, too, Yamper! Yamper here is a real champ when it comes to helping you find your way around. He came to my rescue plenty of times back in the day, when I got lost on the road. Oh yeah, and that's his Trainer, Sonia. What can I say about Sonia? Well, I like the way she cooks. She makes food you can gobble down in a flash."

:"Every Pokémon has got a type or two, which can make it good against some opponents but poor against others. That's the reason you'll want to catch different Pokémon--to cover one another's weaknesses. Now, let's all have a champion time as I show you how it's done."

* During the catching tutorial
:"This is the way a real Champion catches Pokémon!"

* After the catching tutorial/noticing the player has already caught a Pokémon
:"I'll give you some more Poké Balls. In return, I'll only ask that you catch plenty of Pokémon! The Pokémon around here seem easy to catch. Almost like they're itching to join some Trainer's team, wouldn't you say?"
:"And of course, they get Exp. Points from battle, so take on the other Trainers you meet along the path to help your Pokémon thrive. Your team will keep on changing and growing as you get stronger together, no doubt... But even I don't know exactly how yet! Show your Champion something good, all right?"

* Outside Professor Magnolia's house
:"So have you unraveled all the secrets of the Dynamax phenomenon yet?"

* Professor Magnolia's house
:"You must already know about Dynamaxing, right, <player>? Professor Magnolia's been doing research into the Dynamax phenomenon for years and years. And it takes a proper understanding of the thing if you plan to use Dynamaxing to the fullest!"
:"Hop and <player> only just started out as Pokémon Trainers... There's still loads they don't know yet!"
:"Well yeah...you're not wrong. That goal's precisely the reason I gave them both Pokémon, in fact. Right then. In that case...how about this? Let's see if the two of you can show me such a brilliant battle that I'm left with no choice but to endorse you. And don't worry. I'll make sure both your teams are in good shape before the battle starts."

* Outside Professor Magnolia's house
:"You remember what I asked, don't you? I think you've got potential, and that's why I want you to be a real rival to Hop. And that's direct from your Champion Leon!"

* Before battling Hop
:"Listen, you two. The reason I'm unbeatable is because I learn from every battle I see or take part in. That's how I've gotten to where I am today. So show me something good in this battle!"

* After battling Hop
:"<player>! Hop! Well, after seeing a match like that one... I suppose I've little choice but to give you both an endorsement as Champion!"
:"You may both be young still, and plenty rough around the edges, but it was a proper battle. Charizard and I were both feeling the excitement in every last cell in our bodies! Hop, you've always tended to get caught up in things like how you throw your Poké Ball out... Things that have nothing to do with real strength. Honestly, I'd been worried about you still obsessing over that sort of nonsense, but it seems you really have grown a bit, Little Brother! And I'd like to see some more thrilling Pokémon battles out of you, too, <player>."
:"Trust you to pull something like this! They say Wishing Stars fall down for those who have a true wish in their heart, you know."

:"I'd surely never make it to the stadium without you to show me the way, partner. Even with a huge old thing like this bang in the middle of the city, I still get lost."
:"<player>! All right? One look tells me that you've become a Trainer worthy of that endorsement I gave you! And...yes, I reckon you might even be ready to use this... Here, try giving this to your partner to hold!"
:"You can take that lift up to the city's upper level, if you're headed for the stadium next."

* If talked to again
:"I guess you might want to have a look around the city first. Only don't get lost like I do! When you're ready to visit the stadium, take the lift to get up there!"

;Motostoke Stadium
:"You've made it at last, Hop. And you, too, <player>!"
:"The chairman certainly seems to be in high spirits! Now, listen closely, you two. You've both only just started on your path as Trainers. If you want to win, you need to do more than just train your Pokémon. You need to train yourselves, too."

;Hammerlocke
:"<player>! Seems you're doing well collecting Gym Badges."
:"But Hop... Did something happen with him? He was acting really odd when I ran into him. He took one look at him and immediately was like, "I'm so sorry, Lee!" It might be the first time I've heard him apologize for anything, and I've no idea what it was for!"
:"Maybe he's feeling down because he's had some hard losses in battle?"
::He lost to that Challenger Bede :"When you lose, you feel down in the dumps. But then there's nowhere left to go but back up! You've got to think on why it was you lost, though. You know, that little brother of mine...I think he might yet become a surprisingly great Trainer!"
::I think so :"At least I’ve got you to keep an eye on him. You will look out for Hop, won’t you? As his rival."
:"Blast, and look at the time! Nearly forgot my meeting with the chairman. That Oleana really lets me hear it when I'm late! Now if only I could remember which way to go..."
:"Anyway, I'd say that you should go and say hello to Raihan while you're here, <player>. He's the greatest rival I've got and the final hurdle you'll have to face in the Gym Challenge. He should still be around the vault, if you hurry. It's down that way--on the way to Route 6."

* After defeating Opal
:"Hey, Sonia! And <player>, too! You felt that shaking, right? Seems Chairman Rose is testing something again."
:"Is that so? I can make sure the chairman knows."

:"<player>! Thanks for coming, but I've got a handle on this! Whatever's making that noise, I'll see to it!"
:"I already told you, didn't I? Keep your eye on the goal! And for you, that's winning the Gym Challenge! The only Gym Badge left is the one you'll get from the Dragon Gym's Leader, Raihan. Right? Raihan is the only Trainer out there I consider a real rival. He's that good, you know!"
:"And there I go again! Sorry, but I suppose this is no time for me to be stopping for a chat. There's a bit of trouble here with my name on it. But don't you worry about a thing! The unbeatable champion is here to look after things and keep you all safe!"
:"That came from the tunnel, wouldn't you say? Seems I'm about to have a champion time!"

* After defeating Piers
:"Well, I am the unbeatable Champion, after all! But what all is going on here?"
:"Did the chairman know anything?"
:There must be!/Yeah, we'll help! :"Thanks! I appreciate the thought. But all I could ever ask of you would be that you join me in the greatest final match ever. I'll do my part to make that happen by keeping everybody's future safe. So you just keep on doing your part by winning your way through the Gym Challenge!"
:"Looks like we all know what we need to do. So, you two--clear the Gym Challenge so we can meet again at the Champion Cup!"

;Wyndon Stadium
:"<player>!"
:"That was incredible. Brilliant. Honestly...there were even tears rolling down my face before I knew it. To think that the two of you set out together from the same town, built up the greatest teams, and arrived here at this point to throw everything you had at one another... That burning desire to win... Those moves filled with undefeatable passion! It was battling at its very purest, in every possible way! Even though there were some Trainers who weren't sure whether you were fit to be endorsed for the Gym Challenge at first..."
:"Well then, all the more reason! My team members and I will give everything that we've got in us to defeat our challenger. And the challenger standing before us might well end up being you, <player>. In fact, that's precisely what I'm hoping for!"
:"Best to refill your energy stores first! Why don't we go get some dinner together?"

* After clearing the Finals
:"The tense, still air on the pitch... And the exact opposite from the audience, cheering and yelling... They're both fantastic, wouldn't you say?"
:"But remember, the audience is also a bit cruel... They want nothing more than to see one of us lose, after all! It can fill you with fear knowing that, but I absolutely love pushing past the fear. I love giving it everything I've got as a Trainer and seeing my team give everything they've got to seize another victory! It's the greatest feeling in the world, and I can't get enough of it!"
:"I can feel my partners itching with anticipation inside their Poké Balls... We're going to have a real champion time!"

Leon debuted in Flash of the Titans!, where he had a bout against Lance in the finals of the World Coronation Series at Wyndon Stadium, using his Charizard to go up against Lance's Gyarados. After a hard-fought battle, Leon emerged victorious, making him the Monarch.
Leon is a recurring character in Pokémon Journeys: The Series. He debuted in Flash of the Titans!, where he earned himself the title of Monarch, the strongest Pokémon Trainer in the world, by winning the finals of the World Coronation Series. This inspired Ash to participate in the World Coronation Series as well in the hopes of getting to battle Leon, making him Ash's main rival for the series.

Pokémon: Twilight Wings
Leon appeared in Letter, where he and Leon battled Bea and her Machamp in a televised battle inside Wyndon Stadium. The Champion and his partner eventually emerged victorious. He later appeared with his Charizard in a brief flashback Rose had while meeting John, a fan of Leon's.

In JN013, Leon heard a commotion outside the stadium and went to see what was happening. He saw Ash battling a Gigantamax Drednaw with his Pikachu and noticed that it had Gigantamaxed without a Dynamax Band. He gave Ash advice that allowed him to defeat Drednaw before properly introducing himself to them. The next day, Leon approached Ash and Goh at the Wyndon Pokémon Center and accepted Ash's earlier request for a battle. Beforehand, Leon gave Ash an explanation of how Dynamaxing and G-Max Moves worked and gave him his own Dynamax Band. During the battle, both sides Gigantamaxed their Pokémon, with Pikachu even managing to land a couple hits on Charizard, but in the end, Pikachu was defeated. Ash and Leon then promised to each other that once Ash was strong enough, they would battle again.
In a fantasy in Training, Bea thought she saw Leon in the Wild Area, only to realize it was actually a Rhydon.

Leon reappeared in a flashback in JN020.
In Buddy, Hop watched Leon's match with Bea on television. He reappeared in the same role in Early-Evening Waves.

In JN027, Leon successfully defended his title in a tough battle against Raihan. Afterwards, he greeted Ash and Chairman Rose.
In Moonlight, he received John's letter from Chairman Rose while at Rose Tower.

Character
In Sky, Leon was walking to the stadium for his match against Raihan when he got lost along the way on a mountain. Then, he encountered John, who was en route to the stadium in a Flying Taxi when he spotted him. Realizing they wouldn't reach the stadium on foot in time, Leon flew with John on top of the Corviknight and arrived at the stadium in time for his match. Leon then invited John to watch the match from the field as the match started.
Leon is a strong Trainer, having reached the final round of the Pokémon World Championships and having been undefeated for some time. Leon is also a good sportsman, as seen in Flash of the Titans!, when he complimented Lance after their battle and shook his hand.

Leon is remarkably knowledgeable regarding the Gigantamaxing phenomenon, as seen in JN013, when he advised Ash on how to battle with his Gigantamax Pikachu in order to deal with a Drednaw that also had Gigantamax.
In The Gathering of Stars, he was seen flying towards the Isle of Armor in a Flying Taxi. He battled his master Mustard before giving him an invitation letter to the Galarian Star Tournament. He visited and invited various Gym Leaders for the tournament. Later on, he declared the tournament's commencement at Wyndon Stadium.

Leon is shown to change the moves that his Pokémon uses, as seen in JN027 where Charizard is shown to use three different moves than it had used previously.
Character
Leon's presence throughout the miniseries has been shrouded in mystery, with several characters being influenced by the desire to battle him. Leon is also shown to be close to Hop, who looks up to Leon and watches his matches on TV, and Sonia, who is seen talking on the phone with him and attending Leon's exhibition match against Raihan. Leon's desire to help new Trainers do their best is also seen when he says that the next time he meets John, it will be in a Pokémon battle.

Leon debuted in JNM04, where he played the same role as in the anime.
Leon debuted in Crackle!! Practice Battle. He was first seen in the outskirts of Wedgehurst, trying to move a flock of Wooloo off of some train tracks. He was helped by Henry and Casey, who drove off the Obstagoon that was terrorizing the Wooloo. After introducing himself to the children, Leon headed off to Motostoke to appear on a television program, only to get lost on the way there. It was revealed that Leon had decided to endorse the two Trainers for the Gym Challenge thanks to this experience, just like they had hoped he would. The Gym Leaders of Galar were surprised by this decision, as Leon had never endorsed two Trainers at the same time before.

Pokémon
In Stealth!! Infiltrate the Energy Plant, after a large earthquake struck Hammerlocke, Leon attempted to get inside the Energy Plant and see if Rose was safe. Several Macro Cosmos's blocked his attempt, stating that no one was allowed inside the building. Raihan arrived and told Leon to go evacuate people with Sonia while he went inside to check on Rose.

In Grrr!! Noble Kidnappers, Leon received a call from Sonia asking him to join her and Henry's group around Spikemuth. Along the way, he witnessed Sonia falling to the ground after the Flying Taxi she was riding in was shot out of the sky. After rescuing Sonia, Leon encountered Raihan and Piers, who were alerted by the noise coming from Route 9 Tunnel. Leon and Raihan took Sonia and the Cabbie to a hospital in Hammerlocke. Before leaving, Leon entrusted a camera Sonia was carrying to Piers and told him to deliver it to Casey.

In Unbelievable!! The Shocking Truth, after reconciling with each other at the hospital, Sonia informed Leon that Rose was working together with Sordward and Shielbert, the pair responsible for her near-crash landing. The Gym Leaders were informed of the situation and agreed to meet at Rose Tower in order to find out whether Rose intended on bringing harm to Galar. Before Leon, Sonia, Raihan, and Nessa could leave the city, Rose unleashed Eternatus and brought out the Darkest Day, causing Pokémon to start Dynamaxing at random. After dealing with some Pokémon, Leon and the others went to check on Rose in the Energy Plant, where they ran into Henry's group. Everyone went into the plant, where they found Rose ecstatic that his plan was a success.

In PASS27, Rose explained he meant no harm to Galar and sent Sordward and Shielbert to defeat Eternatus and prevent the Darkest Day from spiraling out of control. Despite their claims of being descendants of the heroes that once stopped the Darkest Day, Sordward and Shielbert were unable to win, forcing Rose to take their place. Oleana explained that Rose's actions were for the benefit of Galar and requested that everyone help stop Eternatus. The group agreed and made their way to the summit, where they found Rose had already been defeated. Leon, Raihan, Piers, Hop, Marnie, Nessa, and Melony managed to take Eternatus down, only for it to get back up and unleash its Eternamax form.

They attempted to wield the Rusted Sword and Shield, but the items and Henry were snatched out of the air by Eternatus. Zacian and Zamazenta struck Eternatus at the same time, creating a massive blast of light. By the time the light cleared, Henry, Zacian, Zamazenta, Eternatus had vanished. Leon and everyone injured during the battle were taken to a hospital to recover from the effects of Eternatus's poison.

Debut Crackle!! Practice Battle

Leon (Japanese: ダンデ Dande) is the Champion of the Galar region's Pokémon League in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

In the core series games

Leon originally started out as a Trainer at the age of 10 with his partner Charizard when he entered the Gym Challenge after he was endorsed by Rose, who saw talent in him.[5] He proceeded to win his first-ever Gym Challenge and become the Champion of the Galar League, without losing a single battle. Since then, he and his partner have remained undefeated in every league and exhibition they participated in. He has been referred to as "the unbeatable Champion" and "the greatest Trainer in all of Galar."[6] He is considered a hero to many Trainers in Galar. However, he is also known for his poor sense of directions. His catchphrase is "Let's have a champion time!". According to Mustard, Leon was once his best student at the Master Dojo, but he was never able to finish his training there, as he never made it to the Towers of Two Fists due to his horrible sense of direction.

Leon first appears in the games' introduction movie, where he is introduced as Galar's undefeated Champion by Rose at Wyndon Stadium.

League Cards

This is a transcript of the back of Leon's League Cards in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Normal League Card
"Leon is known far and wide for taking part in the Gym Challenge at the tender age of 10 years old—and even more so for claiming victory in the Champion Cup on his first attempt.
Rare League Card
"Leon's dream, even when he was still the Champion, was to make Galarian Trainers the strongest Trainers in the world. Leon's biggest problem now is coming up with a new signature catchphrase to replace "Let's have a champion time!""

Pokémon UNITE

Leon and his Charizard appear in Pokémon UNITE as an enemy Trainer to fight during the Legacy Trainer Showdown event between September 9, 2022 and October 6, 2022. It took place on Theia Sky Ruins. His Charizard starts the battle as Charmander and can evolve to Charmeleon and then Charizard during the battle. The other members of his team are Cynthia, Korrina, Raihan, and Green. The event later returned between April 21, 2023 and May 21, 2023.

Leon and his Charizard also appear as an enemy Trainer in the recurring Solo Challenge event.

Leon in the anime
Main article: Leon (anime)

Leon is a recurring character in Pokémon Journeys: The Series. He debuted in Flash of the Titans!, where he earned himself the title of Monarch, the strongest Pokémon Trainer in the world, by winning the finals of the World Coronation Series. This inspired Ash to participate in the World Coronation Series as well in the hopes of getting to battle Leon, making him Ash's main rival for the series.

Pokémon: Twilight Wings

Leon appeared in Letter, where he and Charizard battled Bea and her Machamp in a televised battle inside Wyndon Stadium. The Champion and his partner eventually emerged victorious. He later appeared with his Charizard in a brief flashback Rose had while meeting John, a fan of Leon's.

In a fantasy in Training, Bea thought she saw Leon in the Wild Area, only to realize it was actually a Rhydon.

In Buddy, Hop watched Leon's match with Bea on television. He reappeared in the same role in Early-Evening Waves.

In Moonlight, he received John's letter from Chairman Rose while at Rose Tower.

Pokémon Evolutions

Leon appeared in The Champion. While preparing for his Championship Match against Victor, he recalled how he had battled against Eternatus during the Darkest Day, but had failed to catch it, leaving it to Victor and Hop to finish the job with Zacian and Zamazenta's help. This failure had caused Leon to start doubting himself, but his Charizard was able to restore his self confidence. Leon then stepped out into the Wyndon Stadium battlefield, ready to face Victor.

Leon briefly appeared in GOTCHA!.

Pokémon Adventures

Leon in Pokémon Adventures

In Stealth!! Infiltrate the Energy Plant, after a large earthquake struck Hammerlocke, Leon attempted to get inside the Energy Plant and see if Rose was safe. Several Macro Cosmos employees blocked his attempt, stating that no one was allowed inside the building.

In PASS29, Eternatus quickly overwhelmed Leon and the others, only for Zacian and Zamazenta to appear and assist in the battle against the Gigantic Pokémon.

In PASS35, after taking special medicine, Leon and the others began to recover from the effects of the poison.

Trivia

  • Leon's uniform number being just "1" could be a reference to 一番 Ichiban, meaning Number One, but can also mean Best. This can be in reference to his role as champion, thus being the best trainer in all of Galar.
    • Leon is also one of two characters to have a single digit uniform number, the other being Mustard.
  • Leon's Champion logo is only displayed when the player enters the center of Wyndon Stadium before the actual battle with Leon. When the player enters the area before the match that Rose soon interrupts, the regular Wyndon Stadium logo is displayed instead.
  • Leon failed Opal's audition, getting only one out of three answers correct. Opal's notes on Leon are: "Your talent in Pokémon battles is beyond anything I've ever seen, but you're rather hard to read..."
