Lechonk (Japanese: グルトン Guruton) is a Normal-type Pokémon introduced in Generation IX.

Biology

Lechonk is a stout Pokémon resembling a hog. Its body is almost entirely black, except for the brown colorations on its face and ears, and the yellow growths under its eyes that resemble teardrops. Its ears are droopy and partially cover its eyes. It has a triangular pink snout with two huge oval nostrils, as well as stubby feet ending in pink hooves. Its tail is short and curled.

Lechonk has an excellent sense of smell, which it uses to find fragrant wild grasses and rich Berries to eat. This diet causes it to emanate a herbal body odor that repels bug Pokémon. Lechonk has a timid and faint-hearted temperament, and will panic and charge forward if attacked or startled by an opponent. Despite its apparent bulk, Lechonk's body mainly consists not of fat but of muscle, built up by its habit of walking around to find food.[1]

Trivia

Origin

Lechonk appears to be based on a juvenile black Iberian pig, with which it shares its high appetite and diet of fruit and nuts that owes it its rotund shape. Its description as a "gourmand" that sniffs out only the most fragrant foods[1] may pull from truffle hogs, domestic pigs used to locate truffles, a valuable foodstuff used in gourmet dishes.

Name origin

Lechonk may be a combination of lechón (Spanish for suckling piglet), oink (onomatopoeia for a sound pigs make), and possibly chonk (slang term for a fat or large animal).

Guruton may be a combination of グルメ gurume (gourmet) and 豚 ton (pig), ton (unit of weight; referring to its bulk), or glutton.
