Layla (Japanese: レイラ Layla) is the character of the day in Unrest at the Nursery!. She is the co-owner of a Pokémon Day Care not far from Humilau City. She is well-meaning but often clumsy, tripping on rocks several times throughout the episode. Ash and his friends ran into her while she was looking for a Rufflet and Vullaby that had escaped from the day care when she tripped over a rock. She found Rufflet and Vullaby and Ash and his friends followed her to the day care.

After she introduced them to the principal of the day care, Ash, Iris, and Cilan decided to help Layla out with her work. However, the Rufflet and Vullaby didn't get along, and the Vullaby eventually escaped once again. Ash and Iris decided to maintain the day care, while Cilan went with Layla to find Vullaby. When they eventually found Vullaby, they ran into a group of wild Amoonguss. Vullaby was in big danger of getting poisoned, when suddenly Rufflet attacked the Amoonguss, followed by Cilan's Crustle who blocked the path with Rock Slide, saving Vullaby.

Layla and Cilan still had to find a way back to the day care. On their way, they met Ash, who was looking for them. With his help, they almost managed to pass a cliff safely, though Layla fell, right into the water in the cliff, together with Rufflet and Vullaby. After they came on land, she gave both Pokémon a big hug. She returned with Ash and Cilan to the day care and while running, Layla tripped over a rock once again, though now Cilan grabbed her hand, preventing her from falling.
