Biology
Biology
Physiology
Latios is a Pokémon with a birdlike body stylized after a plane. Its body flows slowly into a thick neck, giving it a bulky appearance. It has no legs, usually floating instead. Most of its body is blue, with white areas near its arms and a white stripe on its back that extend up to its head. Jet-plane wings sit on top of its back, while two tall, jagged fins point behind it from its rear. A red triangle marks the center of its chest, while a blue mask partially covers its face. Long, ear-like fins extend from its jaws to over its head, and its eyes are red. It has three-fingered arms with a blue covering on the outer side of the lower arms. Latios is a male-only species, with Latias being its female counterpart.
Latios has mostly the same body shape as Latias, which is highly aerodynamic and shaped like a jet-airplane. However, he has a larger build and is heavier than his counterpart. His lower body is blue instead of red and features the same triangle-shaped marking that Latias has, only red. The rest of Latios's body is gray instead of white. Latios has flatter ears and narrower eyes than Latias. The gray spot in the middle of Latios's blue face is shaped like a tear-drop. Latios also has ridge-shaped features on his rear, which may either be rudimentary feet or tails or some sort, which differs in shape to Latias's. Like Latias, Latios's forelimbs can be tucked into his body in order to reduce air-resistance when in flight, increasing his aerodynamic properties.
Gender differences
Latios are the male of the species, with the female being Latias. Latios are much larger than Latias. Latios' physical characteristics are mainly blue while Latias are mainly red.

Special abilities
Latios has a gentle nature and will avoid fighting whenever possible. It can fly faster than a jet by tucking in its arms. In the fifth movie, Latios had the ability "Sight Sharing" (Japanese: ゆめうつし Dream Analysis) which allowed Latias and people around it to see exactly what Latios was seeing. Oakley also mentioned that it can shape-shift. It prefers compassionate Trainers, to whom it opens its heart. Latios uses telepathy to detect locations and the emotions of others and can understand human speech. It lives by the List of Pokémon by habitat. Latios loves Latios Treats made by Snacksworth, who once encountered and followed it to a secret spot in the past. Latios can be summoned by the Eon Flute.
Latios is able to fold in his arms and fly at the speed of a jet. He can make foes see images he has seen or what he imagines in his head. He can understand human speech. Even if he is hiding, Latios can detect the locations and emotions of others using telepathy. Like his sister Latias, Latios can enfold his body with a glass-like down to refract light which can render him invisible or alter his appearance (an exclusive type of Transformation).

In the movie Pokémon Heroes and manga Pokémon Adventures Latias and Latios also had the ability "Sight Sharing" which allowed Latias and people around her to see exactly what Latios was seeing. Oakley also mentioned that he can shape-shift like Latias, although he was never seen doing so during the course of the movie, apart from the deleted storybook scene that was present only in the Japanese version of the movie. Latios was seen disguised as a boy and Latias as a girl.
Latios is the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Luster Purge. In Generation IX, Simple Beam is also one of its signature moves.

Latios is the only known Pokémon that learns Luster Purge.
Forms
Latios can Mega Evolve into Mega Latios.

Behavior
As Mega Latios, the blue parts of its body change to purple. Horns grow from the side of its head and run along its jaw. It loses the wings on its back and similar but larger wings attach to its lower arms, normally held in a level position. Triangle shapes now mark the forward point of its wings instead of its chest.
Latios has a very protective nature, especially towards his relative, Latias. He has a docile temperament and dislikes fighting. He will open his heart if he finds a Trainer with a compassionate spirit.

Habitat
Mega Latios is said to be one of the fastest Pokémon in the world to exist. Due to Mega Evolving, Mega Latios can achieve even higher speed in flight. Mega Latios is both larger and faster than Mega Latias. It can reach a speed of Mach 4.

Much like Latias, it is mostly unknown where they inhabit. However, they tend to prefer areas that are secluded and have a body of fresh water.

Trivia
Trivia
*Latios and Latias were the first legendary Pokémon to have set genders. In fact, they were the first legendaries to even have genders at all.
* Latios shares its category with Latias. They are both known as the Eon Pokémon.
**Despite this, they belong to the Undiscovered, and cannot breed.
*Before Generation IV, Latios either resisted or was weak to every type classified as Special, taking no neutral hits from any. It shares this trait with Latias.
*Latios shares the same species name with his female counterpart Latias. They are both known as the Eon Pokémon.
*Latios and Latias both have the highest base Speed of all Dragon-type Pokémon.
* Despite being legendary Pokémon, regular battle music is played when Latios and Latias are encountered. They share this trait with Shaymin and Cresselia.
* However, when either Latios or Latias are found in the wild, the pre-battle encounter animation is different than those of ordinary Pokémon, as it is a distorting screen.
* The triangle-shaped ring on the chest of Latios has the same color as the main body of his female counterpart Latias, along with Latios's alternate coloring.
* With the Soul Dew, Latios achieves the highest Special Attack of any Pokémon, even exceeding that of Deoxys's Attack Forme.

Origin
Origin
Latios appears to be a cross between a Jet aircraft and a dragon. He and Latias may also draw inspiration from the philosophy of yin and yang. They may also be based upon the Aeon#In Gnosticism, being that certain aeons are immaterial beings of concepts existing in pairs of males and females emanated from God and one another; also, their species is "Eon." Latias and Latios are also based on birds, and due to Latias's Prototype Pokémon and characters with Blaziken, they could be based on Junglefowl.
Latios and Latias appear to be a cross between a Jet aircraft (due to their wing shape and speedy flight), a dragon, and a bird. In particular, their lack of feet and continuous levitation might be inspired by the common swift, a bird with tiny feet (its Latin name Apus means without feet) that spends most of its life in the air. Similarly, they might be inspired by the martlet, a mythical bird in English heraldry that never roosts and is usually depicted with tufts of feathers in place of feet. Their red and blue plumage might be based on parrots in the genus Eos (bird). They could also be based on junglefowl due to their possible List of unused Pokémon and character designs with Blaziken.

Due to their classification as Eon Pokémon and their connection to the Soul Dew, Latios and Latias might be inspired by the Aeon (Gnosticism), which are said to be emanations of God. In Valentinianism, these aeons form male/female pairs called syzygies. They may also be loosely based on the Chinese philosophical concept of yin and yang, which are opposite but interconnected natural forces. Latios, being male and the more aggressive of the two, would represent yang. Their names and Latios’s signature move Luster Purge might also be a reference to Eos, the Greek goddess of dawn.

Name origin
Name origin
Latios may derive from lateo (Latin for to lie hidden). Os as a suffix may have been added to make it sound more masculine, opposite the more feminine-sounding as in Latias.
Latios may be a combination of lateō (Latin for I conceal, I lie hidden) and -os (Latin masculine suffix). It might also reference Eos (the Greek goddess of dawn) or Eos (bird) (a genus of parrots with red and blue plumage).

Latios (Japanese: ラティオス Latios) is a dual-type Dragon/Psychic Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

While it is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon, Latios can Mega Evolve into Mega Latios using the Latiosite.

It is a member of the eon duo along with Latias.

Biology

It lives by the water's edge. Latios loves Latios Treats made by Snacksworth, who once encountered and followed it to a secret spot in the past. Latios can be summoned by the Eon Flute.

Latios is the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Luster Purge. In Generation IX, Simple Beam is also one of its signature moves.

Forms

Latios can Mega Evolve into Mega Latios.

As Mega Latios, the blue parts of its body change to purple. Horns grow from the side of its head and run along its jaw. It loses the wings on its back and similar but larger wings attach to its lower arms, normally held in a level position. Triangle shapes now mark the forward point of its wings instead of its chest.

Mega Latios is said to be one of the fastest Pokémon in the world to exist. Due to Mega Evolving, Mega Latios can achieve even higher speed in flight. Mega Latios is both larger and faster than Mega Latias. It can reach a speed of Mach 4[1].

Major appearances

Latios (M05)

Latios debuted in Pokémon Heroes: Latios & Latias. Annie and Oakley captured Latios and used him to power the Defense Mechanism of Alto Mare, along with the stolen Soul Dew. Latios ended up sacrificing himself to save Alto Mare from an enormous tidal wave.

Other

In Pikachu's Ocean Adventure, a Latios and Latias used their powers to help Pikachu, Meowth, and the other Pokémon search for the legendary "Wailord's Tear" that was said to be beneath the ocean.

Latios made his main series debut in The Semi-Final Frontier!, under the ownership of Tobias. He was used during Tobias's Full Battle against Ash in the semifinals of the Lily of the Valley Conference. The Eon Pokémon defeated Sceptile and Swellow, but was defeated by Pikachu, who was knocked out at the same time.

In Hoopa and the Clash of Ages, a Latios capable of Mega Evolving was summoned alongside Latias and a Shiny Rayquaza by Hoopa to protect it from the shadow Hoopa Unbound. The trio protected Hoopa from the shadow Hoopa and its reinforcements, Primal Groudon, Primal Kyogre, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, and Kyurem, in Dahara City. Eventually, the battle ended after the shadow Hoopa was sealed in a Prison Bottle, and Latios departed alongside Latias for their home.

A Latios appeared in Rocket Revengers!, as part of Latias's vision. In the next episode, he was revealed to be pursued by a Pokémon hunter. With Latias's assistance, he was rescued by Ash and his friends. At the end of the episode, Ash attempted to befriend Latios, but was rejected by him due to his distant nature and distrust in humans. Latios then departed with Latias to Alto Mare.

Minor appearances

In the opening sequence of Jirachi: Wish Maker, a Latios was soaring through Alto Mare alongside a Latias.

In the opening sequence of The Rise of Darkrai, a Latios was soaring across the sky alongside a Latias.

In Pokémon Ranger: Guardians Signs (Part 1), the Pokémon Pinchers were pursuing a Latios.

A Latios that can Mega Evolve into Mega Latios appeared in the ending segment of Mega Evolution Special II.

A silhouetted Latios appeared in a fantasy in Healing the Healer!.

Other appearances

Latias and Latios in Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

After Latios appears from its Poké Ball, he will fly off the stage. He and Latias will then alternately zoom onto the stage with Steel Wing, damaging any opponent that collides with them. He may also cause movement of items as well.

Trophy information

Latios appears with his counterpart Latias.

"Eon Pokémon. There are only female Latias and only male Latios. If they sense the presence of a human or an enemy, they will generally use the light-bending trait of their down coats to make themselves invisible. They use telepathy to speak with companions. They travel in herds, but even so, are rarely seen. They're a combination of Dragon- and Psychic-types."

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U

Latios returns as a Poké Ball Pokémon. He uses Steel Wing to quickly fly across the stage several times to damage targets.

Trivia

 • Latios shares its category with Latias. They are both known as the Eon Pokémon.

Origin

Latios and Latias appear to be a cross between a jet plane (due to their wing shape and speedy flight), a dragon, and a bird. Their red and blue plumage might be based on parrots in the genus Eos. They could also be based on junglefowl due to their possible shared origin with Blaziken.

Due to their classification as Eon Pokémon and their connection to the Soul Dew, Latios and Latias might be inspired by the aeons in Gnosticism, which are said to be emanations of God.

Name origin

Latios may be a combination of lateō (Latin for I conceal, I lie hidden) and -os (Latin masculine suffix). It might also reference Eos (the Greek goddess of dawn) or Eos (a genus of parrots with red and blue plumage).
