Kyle (Japanese: カイ Kai) is a character who appeared in Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea. He is Meredith's husband, Lizabeth's father and Shep's son. Kyle is a descendant of the People of the Water, denoted by his blue crystal necklace. He also performs in the Marina Group's water shows.
In the anime
Ash and his friends were introduced to Kyle and his family after noticing several bubbles of water appear out of nowhere in a barren field. Kyle was particularly protective of the Manaphy Egg, and hid it behind a curtain after the family's Buizel accidentally revealed it to May and the others. The group later witnessed one the Marina Group's water performances, and Kyle was seen wearing a Vaporeon-inspired costume.
Kyle rode a Dewgong whilst he, his family, Jack Walker, Ash, and his friends visited an ancient People of the Water site. He explained that the Sea Temple, Samiya, blends into the water and traverses the ocean to avoid being seen and plundered by greedy people. For much of the remainder of the movie, he piloted his father's ship, the Blue Lagoon, as they made their way towards Samiya. He remained aboard the ship with Meredith and Shep while Lizabeth, Ash, and his friends were searching Manaphy in a submersible. This incident led to the discovery of Samiya.
After Ash managed to restore the Sea Crown in time, causing Samiya to rise from the ocean, Kyle and the rest of his family became bystanders during the showdown between the Water Pokémon and the Phantom and his crew. Once the battle ended with the Phantom's defeat, Kyle, his family, and Ash's group were surrounded in a mystical golden light, which allowed them to soar through the sky and ocean with the Pokémon. They all then watched as Samiya disappeared back into the ocean.
Everyone later returned to port, where Shep's shipmates were waiting. Kyle and the others then returned to their travel vehicle, and later, he waved goodbye to Ash and his friends.
Kyle is a quiet but kind man who cares deeply for his family, his People of the Water ancestry, and its culture. He doesn't speak often and is usually busy driving the Marina Group's vehicle to the next performance location.
