Kimmy Shoney

Kimmy Shoney (Japanese: ショウギ・ケイマ Keima Shōgi) is a character of the day who appeared in Showdown at Linoone!.

Kimmy was upset when he met Ash and his friends. His Linoone, Tokin, had been stealing round objects for no obvious reason. Among them, Poké Balls that contained two of May's Pokémon.

The young boy couldn't figure out what was going on with his Pokémon until Team Rocket tried to steal Pikachu, and Linoone chased after the balloon. Kimmy then remembered how he and Tokin used to play catch before it evolved, and that it was just trying to have some fun. Once Pikachu was saved, May's Poké Balls were recovered, and rings belonging to Kimmy's parents, Korben and Harmony, were found safely, Kimmy promised to pay more attention to his Pokémon and to start playing again.

Trivia

  • Kimmy's Japanese family name comes from the traditional Japanese game Shogi, also known as Japanese Chess, while his first name comes from 桂馬 keima (Knight), one of the figures from that game. His Linoone is named after と金 tokin (Promoted Pawn), another figure. Similarly, the other members of the family are named after Shogi figures as well.
    • Coincidentally, Tokin's name is similar to the word token, which may refer to its tendency to pickup items.
  • Even though Kimmy is a boy, many have mistaken him as a girl due to appearance and name.
