A Juggler (Japanese: ジプシージャグラー Gypsy Juggler in Generations I and II, ジャグラー Juggler in Generations III and IV) is a type of Pokémon Trainer that first debuted in the Generation I games. They are depicted as slim young men in flashy costumes, juggling Poké Balls.

They specialize in using spherical Pokémon like Voltorb, as well as Psychic-type Pokémon, fitting with their class title and keeping with their circus theme, similar to the Clown class. They occasionally exhibit the behaviour of constantly switching out their Pokémon in battle.

Oddly enough, among the Team Rocket Grunts and Team Rocket scientists in Silph Co. is Juggler Dalton, who attacks the player like any grunt, exclaiming that kids shouldn't be here. He battles the player with a Kadabra and a Mr. Mime. After the battle, he says that it's a long way to his boss, indirectly referring to Giovanni, which hints that Dalton is associated with Team Rocket (though he is clearly not a grunt). He is also the only Team Rocket member not belonging to either the Team Rocket or Scientist Trainer class.

In Pokémon Stadium, a Juggler is one of the opponents in the Poké Cup and sticks to a comedic, unpredictable strategy in every encounter: his Pokémon almost always carry the move Metronome, and if anything else, usually Counter, a sleep move and Dream Eater combo, or Psywave. In the Ultra Ball difficulty of Round 2, his team knows nothing but Metronome.

In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, a Juggler found by the Pokémon Center in Violet City and another by Pal Park in Fuchsia City can trade Berries in exchange for shards.

Mandi's Exeggutor
Exeggutor
Mandi used his Exeggutor as his first Pokémon during his battle against Ash, while Ash chose to use his Krabby. Exeggutor first attacked with Psywave, forcing Krabby into the water. Exeggutor then used its Psychic attack to turn the watery arena into a giant whirlpool, trapping Krabby in the vortex. Exeggutor then launched a barrage of Egg Bombs to the vortex, producing a Wall of Water to keep Ash from recalling it. However, Krabby eventually managed to get out of the vortex and grabbed Exeggutor's leaves with Vice Grip, causing it so much pain that it became unable to attack and commence Mandi's order for using Hypnosis. Krabby then used Leer at Exeggutor and finished it off with Stomp. It reappeared in flashbacks in Fire and Ice and Friends to the End.

Exeggutor's known moves are Psywave, Psychic, Egg Bomb, and Hypnosis*.

Debut Round One - Begin!
Mandi's Seadra
Seadra
Mandi chose to send out his Seadra as his second Pokémon in his battle against Ash. Ash's Krabby had just evolved into Kingler, but Mandi stood calm and told his Dragon Pokémon to use Agility. With its Agility, Seadra was easily able to dodge all of Kingler's Water Guns and some of its Bubbles, but it eventually got hit by a wide-spreading Bubble foam. The hit caused Seadra to fly into the air, and Kingler finished it off with Crabhammer. It reappeared in a flashback in Fire and Ice.

Seadra's only known move is Agility.

Debut Round One - Begin!
Mandi's Golbat
Golbat
Mandi send out his Golbat as his final Pokémon against Ash's Kingler. Ash told Kingler to dive underwater while Mandi commanded his Bat Pokémon to use Take Down. Kingler attempted to grab Golbat with Vice Grip, but Golbat evaded the attack by using Double Team. Golbat then launched a Razor Wind attack, hurting Kingler badly. Mandi was about to finish Kingler with Mega Drain, but Kingler launched a strong Hyper Beam at Golbat, knocking it out. It reappeared in flashbacks in Fire and Ice and Friends to the End. It was also seen in The Rivals.

Golbat's known moves are Take Down, Double Team, Razor Wind, and Mega Drain.

Trivia

The famous line
  • In Generation I, there are two identical Juggler classes in the game's code, at hex D5 and DD.
  • Juggler is the only Trainer class not to retain its original Japanese title from Generation II in HeartGold and SoulSilver. This is likely because "Gypsy Juggler" could be considered offensive to people of Romani descent.
  • In Generation I, a Juggler from the Fuchsia Gym had one line considered famous in fandom.
JUGGLER: "Dropped my balls!"
