Jirachi (Japanese: ジラーチ Jirachi; German: Jirachi; French: Jirachi) is a Steel/Psychic-type Pokémon.

Jirachi has the ability Serene Grace, which causes side effects of moves to happen more often.

Jirachi evolves neither to anything, nor from anything.

Jirachi's signature move is Doom Desire.

A legend states that JIRACHI will make true any wish that is written on the notes attached to head when it awakens. If this POKÉMON senses danger, it will fight without awakening.

Pokémon Sapphire

JIRACHI will awaken from its sleep of a thousand years if you sing to it in a voice of purity. It is said to make true any wish that people desire.

Pokémon Emerald

Jirachi is said to make wishes come true. While it sleeps, a tough crystalline shell envelops the body to protect it from enemies.

It is said to make any wish come true. It is only awake for only seven days out of a thousand years.

Name origin

Jirachi gets its name from zhyelati (Russian: желать), which is Russian for "to desire".

Its design and ability of granting wishes probably refer to the habit of "wishing upon a star", so that your wish come true. Considering its humanoid appearance and ability to grant wishes, it's possible too that it draws inspiration from the Arabic myths about genies, or djinn. In some myths, imprisoned genies would grant wishes to the person who released them.

Also, considering that it's Pokedex info states that Jirachi awakens when sung to with a voice of purity, it is somewhat similar to the Beanstar from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.

On another note, Jirachi's wish tags are take on a Japanese tradition of the New Year's Festival, IIRC. Wishing tags are placed on trees in the hopes that the wishes written on them would come true.
