Jimmy's Typhlosion (Japanese: ケンタのバクフーン Kenta's Bakphoon) was Jimmy's starter Pokémon, given to him as a Cyndaquil by Professor Elm.

History

As a Cyndaquil

Jimmy obtained Cyndaquil on the same day that Vincent got his Chikorita and Marina got her Totodile.

Cyndaquil would soon become one of his closest Pokémon. At the very beginning of his journey, Jimmy used Cyndaquil to battle Silver, but he was defeated by the power of his rival's Nidoking.

As a Quilava

The defeat made them decide to become increasingly strong and Cyndaquil soon evolved into a Quilava and some time later into a Typhlosion. Thanks to his arduous training, the duo eventually managed to defeat Silver, which brought the two even closer.

Jimmy used Typhlosion to defeat Shinji and his powerful Hitmonlee. After a hard battle, the Fire-type Pokémon and Jimmy emerged victorious and then complimented Shinji and his Pokémon.

Typhlosion was used in the battle of Jimmy against Marina. Jimmy chose him to battle against Marina's Croconaw where he shrugged off a Water Gun despite the type disadvantage. The battle was then interrupted because of the actions from Team Rocket against Raikou.

Jimmy then used Typhlosion to battle against Attila's Skarmory and Hun's Steelix, however he was defeated by Ground-type attacks and the disadvantage of Steelix and Skarmory's combined attacks.

In order to protect Jimmy, Typhlosion tried to battle the wounded Raikou, but Jimmy stopped him.

After retrieving his energy, Typhlosion was used again to save Raikou from the clutches of Team Rocket, and he used his fire attack combined with the attacks of Meganium and Little Miss to try to destroy the machine of Team Rocket.

Jimmy used Typhlosion once again in order to save Raikou from Team Rocket's machine and used all of his strength to save the legendary Pokémon alongside Meganium.

Personality and characteristics

Like Ash and his Pikachu, Jimmy and Typhlosion are very close to each other. In The Legend of Thunder!, he was seen out of his Poké Ball most of the time. He is Jimmy's strongest Pokémon.

Like Jimmy, Typhlosion is determined and never gives up. He has an offensive battle style. He seems to be very strong defensively, being able to take a direct Water Gun from Wani-Wani and still be strong enough to battle.

As a friend, Typhlosion likes to play with the face of his Trainer and laugh in his face when he is embarrassed about the insinuations of Marina. However he is extremely loyal to Jimmy, to the point of confronting the power of a legendary Pokémon even though seriously wounded after a battle.

Trivia

  • Typhlosion is the only one of the trio of starters belonging to Vincent, Jimmy, and Marina not to be seen in the main anime. This is because Jimmy himself has never appeared in it, where Vincent battled against Ash at the Silver Conference under the name "Jackson", and Marina has made several cameos during the Diamond & Pearl series.
