Items (Japanese: どうぐ dōgu) have various uses, including healing, powering up, or helping one to catch Pokémon. Below is a list of item categories. (Some items have their own articles.)

Bag

Main article: Bag

• Description: The bag is a tool in many of the Pokémon games
• Purpose: It holds all of the main character's items.
• Location: Receive at the begining

Trainer Card

Main article: Trainer card (game)

• Description: A piece of plastic that every trainer must have.
• Purpose: displays information about a Trainer such as Trainer's name, Trainer ID number, money, Pokémon in Pokédex, and the amount of time they have been playing their game...
• Location: Received at the beginning.
• Instruction: Press the Start button and use the D-pad to choose player's name then press A button.

Badges

• Description: A symbol or an item trainers need to collect.
• Purpose:
  • To denotes a Pokémon Trainer as having defeated a Gym Leader
  • To qualify for a region's Pokémon League.
  • In order to use a specific HM move outside battle
  • Affect Pokémon's behavior, make pokémon under a certain level to obey
• Location: Received after defeated a Gym Leader
• Instruction: Badges are displayed on the bottom of the card in Generation I,II,III, and in the badge case under the trainer card

Frontier Symbols

A gold symbol

• Description: An item equivalent of a badge and Commemorative prints from Sinnoh's Battle Frontier.There are two levels of them for each: silver and gold.
• Purpose: To denotes a Pokémon Trainer as having defeated one of Hoenn's Frontier Brains.
• Location: Received after defeated a Frontier Brain
• Instruction: Symbol are displayed on the Frontier Pass in Emerald Version

Commemorative Prints

• Description: An item equivalent of a badge and symbols from Hoenn's Battle Frontier.There are two levels of them for each: silver and gold.
• Purpose: To denotes a Pokémon Trainer as having defeated one of Sinnoh's Frontier Brains.
• Location: Received after defeated a Frontier Brain

Pokédex

Region Pokédex

• Description: An invaluable electronic device.
• Purpose: It provides a database of pertinent, informative entries on Pokémon found in a specific region. It automatically adds entry of captured Pokémon and is capable of tracking down fled Pokémon.
• Location: Received from Professors.

National Pokédex

• Description: An upgraded version of the regional Pokédex.
• Purpose: It records information from Pokémon around the nation, instead of ones native to a particular region.
• Location: Upgraded after completed region Pokédex.

Unown Dex

• Description: A Pokédex upgrade present in Generation II.
• Purpose: It is designed to display 26 different types of Unown and the word that is associated with each form.
• Location: A scientist's aide will upgrade the player's Pokédex to support this mode after capturing three different Unown and exiting the Ruins of Alph.

Running Shoes

• Description: Running Shoes is an equipment in Generation III and Generation IV
• Purpose: allow the player to run instead of walk
• Location: Received from the player's mother
• Instruction: holding the B button and pressing the D-pad in any direction

PokéGear*

• Description: An important item for Trainers. It looks like a large, advanced, wristwatch, with a symbol resembling an S or a backwards 2 (perhaps the Silph Co. logo) at the top.

• Purpose: It has several functions such as time,map,phone,radio...very useful for the player.Some of them will need to be unlocked during the game by receiving special expansion cards.

• Location: Received from mom at the beginning in Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal.

• Instruction: Press the Start button and use the D-pad to choose PokéGear then press A button.

• Counterpart: In Generation IV, PokéGear is developed into Pokétch. Also, a similar device found in Hoenn region is PokéNav
