Infernape (Japanese: ゴウカザル Goukazaru) is a dual-type Fire/Fighting Pokémon.

It evolves from Monferno starting at level 36. It is the final form of Chimchar.

Biology

Physiology

Its body is a brownish-red color and a large flame burns on its head. The tail flame it had as a Monferno has disappeared. Infernape wears a gold chest ring in place of a chest plate. It also has gold shoulder pads, knee pads, and wrist bands. The blue and red markings it had on its forehead as a Monferno have now changed to a deep blood-red color. Its hands, feet, and inner ears are blue. It uses its hands and feet to pull off special combat moves. It is most competitive when it comes to speed.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Infernape uses a special kind of martial arts that utilizes all four of its limbs.

Behavior

Being powerful fighters, Infernape test their fighting abilities against each other. An Infernape's fighting spirit is determined by the size of the flame on its head.

Habitat

Infernape prefer to live in trees and heavily forested grassland. They often live in groups, with the male that has the biggest flame on their head being the leader.

Trivia

  • Infernape is the only final form Sinnoh starter Pokémon not to have a unique type combination.
  • Infernape has the second-highest Speed of the starters (Sceptile ranks first).
  • Although its Pokédex entry says that "this Pokémon is beat by none in terms of quickness" it has only the 34th highest base speed stat.
  • Infernape shares the same species name as Charmeleon and Charizard, Flareon, and Moltres. They are all known as Flame Pokémon.
  • Infernape is the first fully evolved form of a starter Pokémon to be used by a member of any Elite Four, not counting the Champion.
  • Infernape is the fastest Fire-type and the fastest Fighting-type Pokémon, with a base speed of 108.
  • As of Barry's Busting Out All Over!, Infernape is the only Sinnoh starter Pokémon evolution not to have debuted in the main anime yet.
  • It is the shortest fully evolved main series starter Pokémon to date, being only three feet and eleven inches tall.
  • Infernape is the only Pokémon with a Defense Base Stat of 71, a Special Attack Base Stat of 104 and a Speed Base Stat of 108 so far.

Origin

Infernape is based on a monkey. It is also possible that he is based on Sun Wukong, the Chinese mythical "Monkey King". The gold elements in his design seem to indicate this, and his name can also be linked to Japanese interpretations of the character (e.g. Son Goku). Its appearance is similar to the Colobus Monkeys of Africa. Infernape is most likely based off the martial art Muay Thai which uses all the limbs.

Name origin

Goukazaru is a combination of 業火 gōka, hellfire or inferno, and 猿 saru, ape. Infernape is a combination of inferno and ape.

In other languages

  • German: Panferno - From Schimpanse (chimpanzee) and inferno.
  • French: Simiabraz - From simian and braise (ember).
  • Korean: 초염몽 Choyeommong'
