Characteristics

Defensively, the Ice-type is considered a nearly useless type, only bearing a resistance to one type (itself) and being weak to four types, although two of those types are not very common. This disadvantage in defensive weaknesses is made up somewhat, since most Ice-types have a secondary type that give them resistances and immunities.

Offensively, the Ice-type is considered the best attacking type, together with Ground. It is the only type effective against the Template:Type2 (besides other Dragons) and covers the very common Flying- and Template:Type2s, and also Ground.

Trivia

  • Pure Ice-type species were not introduced until Generation III.
  • Thirteen of the fifteen Ice-type moves are Beauty moves in Contests. The only two that aren't are new in Generation IV, meaning that in Hoenn Contests, all Ice-type moves were Beauty moves.
  • As Ice is a strong offensive type and a poor defensive type, defensive Ice-types (Regice, Articuno and to an extent Cloyster, Dewgong and Lapras) are somewhat of an oxymoron. This is expecially true of the sole-typed Regice.
