Hodge's rivalry with Goh and Ash

Hodge came to the Battle Frontier to participate in the Battle Frontier Flute Cup. When he tried to throw a bottle in the trash can, he ended up meeting with Ash. Soon after, Hodge's Mightyena appeared jumping from a bush, and Hodge ended up stopping Goh from trying to capture it, as Goh believed it to be a wild Pokémon.

During the Battle Frontier Flute Cup, Hodge's first opponent was Goh. Due to his opponent's inexperience, Hodge easily defeated Goh's Scyther and Scorbunny using only his Mightyena. In the second round, Hodge faced a Trainer with an Altaria and defeated with his Mightyena. With this victory, Hodge managed to advance to the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, Hodge faced a Trainer who used a Metagross, defeating it with his Hariyama despite the type disadvantage. With another victory, Hodge managed to advance to the finals of the tournament, where his opponent ended up being Ash.

In the final round, Hodge first used his Hariyama against Mimey, who despite its best efforts was not able to win against the improvised moves that Mimey used in battle. Soon after, Hodge used his Mightyena, but Mimey refused to battle and this forced Ash to send out Pikachu. Although Mightyena started the battle with agile moves that confused Pikachu, Hodge and Mightyena ended up losing when Ash used an improvised strategy with Pikachu. After the battle, Hodge thanked Ash for the match.

Hodge reappeared in JN064, in which he requested Ash and Goh's help in fixing the hot springs of Lavaridge Town, which the townsfolk believed was being caused by an Absol. After Ash and Goh succesfully resolved the problem, the trio celebrated by taking a bath in the hot springs together.

Character

Despite trying to demonstrate a threatening stance, Hodge is very friendly, quickly becoming friends with Ash and greeting him after their battle in the Battle Frontier Flute Cup.

Hodge's Hariyama
Hariyama
Hariyama is one of Hodge's main Pokémon. Hodge often moves around by riding on Hariyama's shoulder. He used it in the semifinals of the Battle Frontier Flute Cup, where it was seen defeating a Metagross.

In the finals, Hariyama was the first Pokémon used by Hodge against Ash and Mimey, who used a series of kung fu moves that allowed him to dodge Hariyama's Force Palm attacks. After being trapped in multiple invisible walls formed by Reflect, Hariyama was defeated by a super effective Psychic attack.

In JN064, Hariyama was seen next to Hodge welcoming Ash and Goh. Later, it was seen again taking a bath in the hot springs.

Hariyama's only known moves are Force Palm and Arm Thrust.

Mightyena was the first Pokémon used by Hodge in his first match in the Battle Frontier Flute Cup against Goh. Despite the type disadvantage, Mightyena managed to defeat Goh's Scyther and Scorbunny without much difficulty.

In the quarterfinals Hodge used Mightyena against an Altaria.

In the finals, Mightyena was the second Pokémon used by Hodge in his battle against Ash. Initially, Hodge sent Mighyena out to battle Mimey, who ended up refusing to fight, forcing Ash to use Pikachu. During the battle, Mightyena's speed allowed it to take the lead, but Pikachu managed to win after a combination of Electroweb and Iron Tail.
