Hanzo (Japanese: ハンゾー Hanzō) is a recurring character who appeared in The Legend of the Ninja Hero! and A Festival of Decisions!. He is a former chief of Ninja Village, having selected Ippei as his successor.
History
Prior to his debut, Hanzo criticized chief prodigy Kagetomo due to his excessive thirst of power and self-assertion, following which the latter trained rigorously in exile to seek revenge. Hanzo went onto shift attention to Ippei, whom he saw as good candidate for the chieftain.
In The Legend of the Ninja Hero!, Hanzo happily welcomed Sanpei back to Ninja Village, as well as visitors Ash and his friends, having heard great things from Saizo.
He was later kidnapped by Kagetomo and the Ninja Corps, who were determined to install Kagetomo as the village chief by force. Hanzo remained calm during his abduction, and questioned Kagetomo's selfish intentions. In the meantime Ippei led the counter-offensive, eventually locating Hanzo held hostage on Otori Mountain in A Festival of Decisions!. Hanzo then watched the battle between Ippei and Kagetomo, praising both Trainers for their strength, but insisting that Ippei had something in him, which Kagetomo lacked. Upon Kagetomo's defeat, he revealed it to be devotion, love, and trust in his Pokémon; and a will to fight for the villagers and their Pokémon. At the village festival held later that night, he presented Ippei with the shuriken emblem, thus crowning him as the new chief of the village. He then witnessed Kagetomo and Heidayu as they left on their journeys to be strong for the right reasons.
With the festival ceremonies over, he discussed the change in Ash's Greninja's odd appearance with Shinobu, Saizo, Ippei, and Nihei, excitedly remarking that the Ninja Village was saved by another remarkably different Greninja.
Character
Hanzo was well respected as the chief of Ninja Village for his wisdom and optimism. He is incredibly perceptive, often watching battles to learn more about a Trainer's heart. He was determined to ensure the traditions and worldly values of the village were kept alive in his chief successor, which led him to fall out with prodigy Kagetomo. Hanzo lives a comfortable life and is often seen with his attendant Shinobu.
