The Haircut Brothers in the anime, as seen in A Goldenrod Opportunity

The haircut brothers (Japanese: さんぱつきょうだい Haircut brothers) are groomers in Pokémon Gold and Silver and their remakes, Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, occasionally appearing in the Goldenrod Tunnel in Goldenrod City, Johto.

As the name suggests, the brothers give a single Pokémon a haircut that increases the friendship of the Pokémon, once per day. Using the services of the brothers is useful for evolving Pokémon that require a certain amount of friendship to evolve, such as Togepi or Eevee. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, the service not only raises a Pokémon's friendship, but also raises its Beauty stat, which is necessary to evolve Feebas into Milotic, due to the absence of Pokémon Super Contests in the games.

The younger of the Haircut brothers is cheaper at PokémonDollar.png300, but his service is often less satisfactory. However, the younger brother has a chance of occasionally increasing a Pokémon's friendship to a greater degree than the older brother is capable. The older brother is more reliable but more expensive at PokémonDollar.png500.

In the games

Friendship level

The amount of friendship a Pokémon gains from a haircut depends on their reaction, their current friendship, and the brother who gave the haircut, as shown below.

Description Brother 0-199 200-249
<Pokémon> looks a little happier. Either +1
<Pokémon> looks happy! Either +3 +1
<Pokémon> looks delighted! Older +5 +2
Younger +10 +4

Beauty value

In HeartGold and SoulSilver, in addition to gaining friendship from a haircut, the Pokémon's Contest condition is also improved. For the lesser two reactions, Beauty is increased by 16 and sheen is increased by 11; for the best reaction, Beauty is increased by 24 and sheen by 18.

Appearances

The brothers never work at the same time. The brother that is on shift depends on the day of the week. On Mondays, neither brother is available for haircuts. The row for the current day is highlighted below.
