(Japanese: カヌチャンのハンマーは1日にしてならず Kanuchan's Hammer Wasn't Made in a Day) is the 70th episode of Pokémon Horizons: The Series, and the 1,302nd episode of the Pokémon animated series. It first aired in Japan on October 25, 2024.
Plot
In order to meet Briar at the Crystal Pool, Liko, Roy, Dot, and Friede head up the Infernal Pass to reach their destination, while the rest of the Rising Volt Tacklers stay behind at Mossui Town to do some cultural exchange with the locals. Soon, they're startled when a bunch of metallic tubs suddenly fall down behind them. The culprit, a Bombirdier, openly laughs at them from the sky above while Liko checks its info on her Rotom Phone and Friede explains that Bombirdier loves startling people and Pokémon. Dot's Tinkatink tries hammering one of the tubs, but ends up dropping her hammer, making her cry until Dot picks it up for her, with Bombirdier observing them from nearby.
The group continues their climb, but ends up stopping to observe some wild Pokémon. Simultaneously, Tinkatink finds some pieces of scrap iron and starts hammering one of them. Liko notices that Tinkatink's hammer seems to be longer than before. Dot confirms this, also noting that when Tinkatink focuses on working on her hammer, she doesn't seem to pay attention to anything else, which Liko and Roy see as similar to how hard Dot focuses when creating web content. The group decides to take a break from climbing to let Tinkatink continue her work. Bombirdier, watching from a cliff, tries to startle Tinkatink by dropping some water balloons around her, but she's so focused on her work that she doesn't notice them at all, much to Bombirdier's irritation. As such, it instead drops down a set of chattering teeth, which startles and distracts Tinkatink long enough for Bombirdier to snatch the metal plate she had been working on and start flying away with it. Dot gives chase and has Quaxwell retrieve the plate from Bombirdier's claws and return it to Tinkatink. However, Bombirdier quickly returns, this time dropping down a Pineco, which promptly Self-Destructs and creates a cloud of smoke, allowing the Item Drop Pokémon to snatch the scrap iron plate again. Tinkatink, noticing this, desperately follows, and by the time the smoke cloud clears, no one knows where Tinkatink has gone, so the group decides to split up to search for her.
Having lost sight of Bombirdier, Tinkatink keeps asking help from various wild Pokémon she comes across, but none of them is able to help her. Eventually, however, both Tinkatink and Dot hear a clanging noise and follow it. Tinkatink reaches the source of the sound first, finding Bombirdier using her iron plate to startle a Magcargo. Bombirdier flies away with the plate, so Tinkatink gives chase, eventually winding up at Bombirdier's stash of stolen metallic items. While Bombirdier goes off to drink nearby, Tinkatink climbs into the stash to find her iron plate, just as Dot arrives at the site as well. Bombirdier notices Tinkatink going through its belongings, but Quaxwell manages to distract it with Water Gun long enough for Tinkatink to find her plate and resume working on it. In retaliation, Bombirdier drops a metallic tub on Quaxwell. When it tries to do the same again, Quaxwell uses Water Gun to send the tub right back back at Bombirdier. Starting to get angry, Bombirdier promptly Terastalllizes into a pure Dark type. Dot is shocked that wild Pokémon are able to Terastallize, but quickly recovers and decides to respond in kind. However, before she can Terastallize Quaxwell, she's suddenly attacked by another Bombirdier, causing her to drop and lose her Tera Orb. While she desperately looks around for it, she simultaneously has Quaxwell fight against the two Bombirdier, determined to not allow Tinkatink's work to be interrupted.
Tinkatink finally finishes adding the iron plate to her hammer. Seeing Quaxwell struggling, she wants to go help, but her upgraded hammer proves too heavy for her to lift. While Quaxwell continues to get pummeled by the two Bombirdier, Tinkatink desperately drags her hammer along, until she finally falls off the cliff she was on, dragged down by her hammer. Seeing her, the Terastallized Bombirdier switches targets, but at that moment, Tinkatink musters her strength to actually lift her hammer and evolves into Tinkatuff as a result. Now wielding her hammer with ease, Tinkatuff joins Quaxwell in the battle; while Quaxwell blocks incoming attacks, Tinkatuff first defeats one Bombirdier with Brutal Swing, before pounding the Terastallized one down with a new move; Play Rough. Both Bombirdier flee in defeat and Dot takes a moment to congratulate her newly evolved Pokémon, before spotting her lost Tera Orb nearby and retrieving it. Turning back to Tinkatuff, Dot sheds tears of happiness at seeing her hard work finally finished. Once the group has reunited, Liko takes the chance to view Tinkatuff's Pokédex entry, while Friede expresses his surprise at the information that wild Pokémon can Terastallize even outside of Paldea. Tinkatuff, still in high spirits, starts hammering a hexagonal nut, showing that she still wants to increase her hammer's size even further, much to Dot's delight.
