A Gym Challenger (Japanese: ジムチャレンジャー Gym Challenger) is a type of Trainer class introduced in Generation VIII. They are Trainers who compete in Galar's Gym Challenge. Although characters such as the player and rivals are referred to as Gym Challengers in Sword and Shield's in-game dialogues, they instead use Pokémon Trainer as their Trainer class. Gym Challenger, as a Trainer class, is exclusively used by Trainers that participate in the Champion tournaments at Wyndon Stadium. These Trainers all specialize in one specific type.
