A Pokémon Gym (Japanese: ジム Gym) is a place where Pokémon trainers go to train their Pokémon. Just like real life gymnasiums, where one can go to work out and build physical strength, Pokémon Gyms are places where trainers can go to sharpen their battling skills and where their Pokémon can go to gain experience. Often specializing in a particular elemental type, Gyms create an environment which allows trainers to test both their skills and Pokémon against those of others. The most powerful trainer in a given Gym is called the Gym Leader, whom the lower-ranking members of a Gym look up to greatly.

Official Gyms

Gyms that are certified by the Pokémon League are vital to a trainer's Pokémon journey. Leagues are designed so that conventional trainers must travel far and wide before entering a League Competition, as the only way to enter one is by gaining at least eight official Gym Badges, and there can only be one official Gym per city.

List of Gyms

There are eight known official Gyms in each region. In the Anime, Gary reveals that he has more than eight Badges, hinting that there are more Gyms than players are given access to in the Games, at least in the Kanto region.

Kanto

Pewter Gym

Pewter City's Gym is based on Template:Type2 Pokémon. Known members include Camper Jerry, Camper Liam, Gym Leader Brock, Brock's father, Flint, and Brock's mother, Mizuho. Trainers who defeat Brock receive the Boulderbadge. In the anime, it's a somewhat small stone building, and Brock's family lives in the house outside. The battlefield is littered with jagged rocks and boulders. In the TCG, the Pewter City Gym is a large, stone battlefield surrounded by rock formations that encircle it.

Cerulean Gym

The Template:Type2 Pokémon Gym at Cerulean City is also a tourist attraction with a large aquarium and swimming pool. Known members include Swimmer Briana, Swimmer Parker, Swimmer Diana, Swimmer Luis, Picnicker Diana, Gym Leader Misty, and Misty's sisters. In the anime, the building itself is a dome-shaped brightly colored Gym with a gigantic painting of a Dewgong on top of it. The TCG's design has a similar appearence, but less decorative.

Vermilion Gym

In the anime, the Vermillion Gym is a warehouse-like building with lightning bolts painted on it, and the arena inside is a dimly-lit boxing ring. In the TCG, the inside of the Gym appears metallic and machine-like, and a series of dyanamos surrounds the arena and produces an electrical current that converges in the center of it.

Celadon Gym

Saffron Gym

Fuschia Gym

The Fuschia City Gym is an old-fashioned mansion located in a forest outside of the city proper. It is filled with booby traps, most notably invisible walls and a hoarde of explosive Voltorb. Battles take place either inside the mansion or in the courtyard outside.
