Growl (Japanese: なきごえ Cry) is a non-damaging Normal-type move introduced in Generation I.
Effect
Growl decreases the Attack stat of all adjacent opponents by one stage. It does not affect Pokémon with the Abilities Soundproof, Hyper Cutter, Clear Body, White Smoke, or Full Metal Body.
Growl will become a Water-type move when used by a Pokémon with the Ability Liquid Voice. If the user is affected by Throat Chop, it will be unable to use this move for two turns.
If the user is holding a Throat Spray, the item will be consumed and the user's Special Attack stat will be raised by one stage.
If powered up by a Normalium Z into Z-Growl, the user's Defense stat rises by one stage, and the user can use this move regardless of whether it was affected by Throat Chop or not.
Growl can also be used as part of a Pokémon Contest combination, with the user gaining extra two appeal points if the move Charm was used in the prior turn.
