Gold (Japanese: 金之助 Kinnosuke) is a character from the Pokémon Pocket Monsters manga. He is a rival of Red and is based on Ethan from Pokémon Gold and Silver.
History
Gold first appears in Welcome Back, Clefairy!! where he is recommended by Professor Elm to Professor Oak as a chosen Trainer of Johto along with Silver to get his first Pokémon. He chose a Cyndaquil from Professor Oak. After that, he heads outside and sets on his journey with Red showing him some of the basics. In the next chapter, he makes a cameo in Professor Elm's flashback.
Gold reappears in Hatch the Pokémon Egg!! where he finds Red's Togepi Egg after it drifted away on the current of the hot springs. Instead of giving it back to Red right away, Gold battles Red using Cyndaquil. Even though Gold had the upper hand in the battle, the Egg hatched into a Togepi and Togepi chose Red as the owner. This caused Gold and Cyndaquil to fall in a lake. Then, they dry themselves off while Red and his Pokémon were having a barbecue.
In Pokémon Snowball Fight, he competes in a race with Red's other rivals. During the race, he does not make it onward after Green threw him off course with his Charizard. Gold reappeared in Return light to Bellossom!! where he helps Red fight off a Pineco.

| Cyndaquil is Gold's starter Pokémon who he received from Professor Oak.
Cyndaquil had its first battle with Red's Clefairy in Hatch the Pokémon Egg!! to determine which Trainer would keep the Egg. The battle was a draw after the Egg hatched into a Togepi. Gold chose Cyndaquil as his racing partner in Pokémon Snowball Fight during a race against Red's other rivals. Cyndaquil was seen knocked out with its Trainer after Gold got thrown off course by Green. In Return light to Bellossom!!, it helped out Red in fighting a wild Pineco. Cyndaquil's known moves are SmokeScreen, Ember and Tackle. | ||
